DPG Pumps (DPA)

EQUIPMENT: Pump 3230F560T, 3349F250T, 3340F260T, 3260F530T and 3340F280T
series fitted to gen sets and other constant speed applications for Perkins
Engine Company Limited.

SUBJECT: Design changes

1. INTRODUCTION
The following design changes have been introduced on the above range of DPG pumps.

2. DESIGN CHANGES
2.1 New metering valve and hydraulic head
Introduced to prevent a possible delay in engine shut down, particularly if within 30 seconds of start
up, caused by back filling past the metering valve vent flat.

The revised design incorporates a non-flatted metering valve, and the head and rotor assembly now
includes a special self-vent orifice (termed stuken) to remove the air.

3340F260T head & rotor 7180-949U replaced by 7180-964U

metering valve 7180-935A replaced by 7180-935C 3340F261T

3340F280T head & rotor 7180-950L replaced by 7180-965L

3349F250T head & rotor 7180-950L replaced by 7180-965L

metering valve 7180-935A replaced by 7180-935C 3349F251T

3260F530T head & rotor 7180-952L replaced by 7180-967L

metering valve 7180-935A replaced by 7180-935C 3260F531T

Only the new head and rotor assemblies are now supplied in service. The new metering valve must also
be fitted to prevent the engine shut down problem. Fitting an old metering valve with a new head and
rotor would also result in high backleakage.

To identify that the modification has been carried out, the last digit of the pump dispatch number must
raised by one.

e.g. 3260F530T becomes 3260F531T.

2.2 Deletion of overspeed device.

The overspeed protection device, originally fitted, has not been used by the customer i.e. the
adjusting screw has remained fully backed off. As a result the components associated with this
feature have been removed from the pump.

Changes

Removal of screw 7182-966C (item 440*), nut 7174-917C (item 441) and washer 5936- 208C (item
442).

Control cover changed from 7180-936A to 7180-936D (deletion of threaded hole for the overspeed
screw).

Governor arm kit changed from 7135-76AK to 7135-76AL (deletion of the overspeed spring from the
governor arm).

3230F562T became 3230F563T

3340F261T became 3340F262T
3340F281T became 3340F282T
3349F251T became 3349F252T
3260F531T became 3260F532T

When stocks are exhausted only the new governor cover and governor arm kit will be supplied in
service.
