CONVEYOR TYPES
TECHNICAL GUIDE
Conveyor system FS : ( conveyor width 45 mm)
Guide for data of conveyors
Suitable for small items like cosmetic or pharmaceutical bottles and for small metal componets.
Product width
The location of the gravity center and the shape of goods Conveyor system FL: (conveyor width 65 mm)
conveyed precise the maximum product width.
Preferable in high speed applications.
Suitable for a wide range of applications.
Maximum product weight (horizontal and incline transport) Suitable for vertical wedge transport.
In a horizontal conveyor, the maximum weight of the prod-
ucts conveyed depends on the wear of the slide rails. For Examples of products conveyed:
single conveyor systems, it can be maximum 30 kg. Tissue paper Plastic bottles
Coffee and tea packages Soap
Ice cream Show boxes
Maximum product weight (vertical wedge transport)
In a vertical wedge conveyor, the maximum weight of the products conveyed depends on the strength of the cleats.
Conveyor system FM: (conveyor width 85mm)

Maximum weight on conveyor Suitable for a large range of of applications.

The maximum weight depends on the drive unit capacity and on the tensile strenght of the chain. Suitable for vertical wedge transport.

Conveyor length/speed range Examples of products conveyed:

Ice cream Plastic bottles
The maximum conveyor lenght and speed depend on the total load and on the drive unit capacity.
Beverage cans Paint cans
Shampoo

Conveyor system FH: (conveyor width 105 mm)

Suitable for larger items.

Larger items are supported by guide rails.

Examples of products conveyed:

Boxes Big pouch bags
Paint cans

Conveyor system FB: (conveyor width 175/ 295 mm)

Suitable for larger items.

Examples of products conveyed:

Large boxes Detergent bags
Display cartons

FBH conveyor system is the strong type of the FB system.

Suitable for heavier and larger items.

Examples of products conveyed:

Detergent cases
Cigarette carton cases

How to select the suitable Flexkon Size? Drive Unit
1)Calculate the total load based on product weight, distance between products, accumulation distance and
conveyor lenght.
2)Calculate the chain tension. In case of conveying heavy items, you must calculate the traction force required
which is increased even more if the products are to be accumulated.
3)Compare the resulting chain tension with the capacity of the chain and drive unit selected. If the capacity is not
sufficient for your application, shorten the conveyor if possible, or select a system with higher capacity.
4) Only sizes FL and FM can be used for vertical wedge conveyors.

How to select the suitable guide rail and guide rail bracket? Chains
The wide of the product conveyed can be three or four times higher than the chain width. Supporting guide rails are Parameter FS FL FM FH FBM FBH
necessary to prevent the goods conveyed falling off the conveyor. The suitable guide rail bracket is selected
according to the minimum and maximum leading sides of the product conveyed as well as the height and shape of Weight(plain chain) kg/m 0,70 0,75 1,2 1,7 2,0 2.8

The maximum permissible traction force of the various drive units is shown in the following table.

Friction between product and chain

The coefficient of friction between product and plain chain is between 0,1 and 0,34.
Comment: The coefficient of friction of the plaster below the boxes and the carton are different; it is recommended
to test before the installation.
The incline/decline angles are generally between 7- 23 with frictional chain.

Maximum conveyor length

The maximum conveyor length depends on the load on conveyor, vertical and horizontal plain bends, speeds, accu-
mulation and frequency of starts/stops.
The maximum lenght is 8-10 m with direct drive without chain slack. From 10 m to 30 m conveyor length, drive with
chain slack is recommended.

Temperature limits
The temperature limits are between -25 C and +60 C for a conveyor to operate continuously.
They are suitable for ice cream cold storage rooms.

Conveyor noise level

The noise generated by the chain increases after a few days of operation. The maximum noise level is 75 db at 60
m/min. The conveyor noise level increases with high speed. Generally, speed of conveyors is recommended to be
between 10 - 30 m/min.
At high speeds, wheel bends are louder than large-radius plain bends nonetheless plain bends are weared out
faster than wheel bends.

Effective track lengths Effective track lengths
The effective track lengths sould be considered when calculating the required chain in a system. Description Effective track lenght(m)
The effective track length of chain is the total length of chain required through a bend or idler unit or drive unit. One way chain Two way chain
Two way chain is considered when the chain returns on the bottom side.
