Thehouseofsinwasdarkandmean,
Withdyingflowersroundthedoors
Theyspatthebeteljuicebetween
Therottenbambooofthefloors.
WhydidIcome,thewomancried
Soseldomtoherbedofease?
WhenIwasnot,herspiritdied
AndwouldIgivehertenrupees.
Theweekswentby,andmanyaday
Thatblackhairedwomandidimplore
MeasIhurriedonmyway
Tocomemoreoftenthanbefore.
Thedayswentbylikedeadleavesfalling,
