great starter point!
The other MAJOR, and I mean MAJOR point to remember when developing a logo is
pick a TIMELESS font! Do not get caught up with industry trends and get blinded by
a popular font. You will regret it!

You should use a vector drawing applications - logos are meant to be scalable (using it
on pen and on a huge billboard) as well as used on dierent medias (screen, print and

Firstly, gain an understanding of who you are, what you do and who you do it for.
Secondly, once you have this insight into the organisation, outline the key
requirements of the logo. (how it will be used, what mediums will it be broadcast in,
what lifespan and reach it will need, etc)
Thirdly, brief in a competent designer or design studio and let them do their job. A
good designer will add the extra ingredient of imagination to a sound brief, elevating
your logo above the obvious and generic solutions.

When you're benchmarking 'great' logos, it's important to remember that most
famous visual identities acquire their power through use, not design magic, so be
wary of looking for a formula. Great design gives a logo quicker traction, more
cultural power and more ability to inspire pride internally. I'll leave it to the designers
to counsel you technically, but strategically I'd oer this: strong visual identities
begin with two foundational inputs. The rst is the competitive frame of reference.
Every category has a sort of design grammar that consumers recognize and that
makes a brand look like it 'belongs' there. The second is character. A brand's attitude
and personality are dening inputs to a great logo, and without taking them into
account you'll tend to end up with tidy design that somehow seems articial. This is a
mistake Peter Arnell has famously made more than once, with all due respect.
Respect your frame of reference and bring your character to life, and your logo will be
a marketing asset.
