Introduction:

-Vilkommen til Norge! Does anyone know where Norway is on a map? Norway
is in the Northern Hemisphere of the world, and it is very cold there. Because
the climate in Norway is extremely cold, people there have to dress warmly
and make clothing that will accommodate their climate. Many people in
Norway knit or weave clothing from yarn because it keeps them warm. Today
we will be learning to knit without any tools, we can knit with just our fingers
and some yarn.

Teacher Demonstration:

Directions:

Step 1: Place strand of yarn between thumb and pointer finger

Step 2: Weave yarn over and under fingers

Step 3: Weave yarn back across fingers alternating the over and under

Step 4: Weave yarn over and under fingers to the right

Step 5: Weave yarn over and under fingers to the left

Step 6: Pull the yarn strands on the bottom of your fingers over your
finger tips

Step 7: Push yarn down to the base of your fingers

Repeat Steps 4 through 8 until yarn is all used up pulling on knitted

piece as you go

Step 8: Tie a knot in both ends leaving a loop

Step 9: Repeat with other two colors/pieces

Step 10: Braid the three strands together (use a partner if necessary)

Step 11: Use the 5 inch piece of yarn to string all of the loops together
forming a circle.

As the students finish with their scarves, they will be able to eat their sample
of Viking bread, and use the Norwegian vocabulary section in their adventure
books to play a matching game between the English and Norwegian words.

2 Minutes before rotating, the students will all clean up whatever they are
doing at that time and we will prepare to rotate to the next group.
