It's clich to say that experience is the best teacher. I do agree with it and

would like to add that it is also the most dreadful since you go through life experiences

and learn from your mistakes the hard way.

Based on the film "Ang aming mga sala" I would say that it definitely hit my

very being multiple times and made me realize the actions and decisions I executed

throughout my life and then made me feel extremely guilty about those things. A

scene from the movie tackled about the life of a businessman who admittedly

possessed too much pride of himself. He came from a working class family with a

father who worked as a laborer. He was able to attend a prestigious school to become

a lawyer with meager earnings of his family. However, he withdrew from law school

and instead focused on business. His humble beginnings urged him to help his family

rise up from poverty. He worked hard until he became a successful entrepreneur. He

took too much pride of it and even came to a point wherein he thought that he was

the only exceptional person, and that he was always right and his opinions are better

and more thought out than others. He became arrogant and even envied his own

wife's success.

I felt guilty at some point knowing that i somehow felt the same feeling of too

much pride. There were times when i would think highly of myself and consider myself

as superior than others. I would easily disregard ideas and opinions of others and

would put too much value to mine. If my idea would turn out to be successful, i would

feel even prouder and become boastful of it. In the film, the man later on had an

illness that made him feel depressed. It was a dark moment for him but only then
he saw the light and realized what he had been. He realized his weaknesses and

mistakes. It was a moment of conversion and an education of humility. It was a

challenging experience for him that thought him a valuable lesson. When you get the

taste of success, don't just own it to yourself. Be appreciative for what had been and

the instrumentalities that have helped you along the way. Most of all, be proud and

grateful to God for he blessed you. Through this I learned that being truthful will

teach you how to appreciate others and to admit your weaknesses and see the

strength from God.

Another scenario in the film showed the story about a woman named Rebecca.

She got married at a young age knowing that it would set her free from her strict and

possessive parents. Unfortunately, she was bound to experience the same thing. She

felt envious towards her neighbor who happened to have a much better life than hers.

Instead of being happy for the goodness that others receive, she felt envy. She went

way overboard and stepped into family matters of her neighbor and have caused them

their relationship. Her neighbours husband broke up with his wife, the woman whom

Rebecca envied.

I admit that there were times were i can't seem to be sincerely happy about

someone's success or goodness. I feel envious and sometimes ask God why it couldn't

be me. Sometimes i would think that others are far more deserving than them. There

are times where I would pretend happy for them even though I feel jealous, just so

they wouldnt know it. However, I realized that envy would only lead to destructions

of relationships I have. I wouldnt want that someday I would regret my actions and

the feelings of envy I felt towards others. According to the Ten Commandments, you

should not covet what is not yours. Being contented of what you have been blessed
would lead you to true happiness. Only then you could be happy for others and rejoice

with them.

Another scene from the film that made me feel guilty is when Cardinal Tagle

started talking about spiritual laziness; about having no diligence and drive when it

comes to matters pertaining to God and faith. He even talked about those who feel

tired of praying, going to church, and fulfilling the religious obligations. I admit that

there are times when dont feel like going to church. It is as if I am drained of energy

or preoccupied to something I know that is less important than attending the mass.

There are even times where I needed to be persuaded by my parents to come with

them. I think that being aware of ones religious obligations and drawing strength and

fortitude from God is the key to counter this spiritual sloth.

There are a number of qualities or virtues that can be picked up from the film.

As a nurse leader, one must possess these virtues in order for him to properly guide

his subordinates and have a sense of camaraderie and belongingness that would

promote professional and personal growth to the members of the team. The 3 greatest

lessons Ive learned from this in which a nurse leader should possess are humility,

patience and selflessness.

A nurse leader should know how to stay modest and humble to ones

importance. Even though a leader is of higher rank or position than others, one must

learn to respect and give importance to everyone. There will always be an instance

wherein situations in the working environment will prove your intelligence and

greatness compared to others. It is at this moment where one should exhibit humility
and not be boastful about it rather take it as opportunity to teach and guide the

colleagues. Humility would also win the respect and trust of team members and lead

the development of clinical practice. Demonstration of this trait will be regarded as a

source for inspiration and role model for future nurse leaders.

Patience is another important trait in nursing leadership. As a senior nurse, one

must be patient enough to tune down his expectations of the junior nurses. It takes

time for a novice nurse to learn every routine and standard operating procedures.

That is why a leader should stretch out his understanding as his nurses would

sometimes hit a bump on their way to learning how to be a good nurse. Patience is

also necessary in dealing with stubborn patients or even patients significant other.

Patience would help one compose himself and take everything into consideration to

make a sound decision or next step and would not result into anger.

Lastly, nursing is a profession of selflessness. You give not to receive but simply

to serve those in need. Selfless would also mean answering question, training new

nurses and solving problems in the unit. Learning how to sacrifice for the benefit of

others is of excellent quality.

The documentary has made me realized the importance of self-awareness and

having a strong relationship with God. It is believed that it is hard to resist the

temptations to these inordinate desires. If we only rely on our own strength and

knowledge, we would easily be committing these sins. But if we turn to God and ask

for his wisdom and blessings, there will be nothing that cannot be done. Let us not

wait for one to be addicted or consumed by these desires and consequently commit
another sin. Taking the high road to redemption is the key. There are virtues that

could help combat or counter the capital sins. The easiest way to remember this

virtues is remembering the commandments of the Lord. A passage in the bible says

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your

mind and with all your strength; and Love your neighbor as yourself.

Contemplating these lines prior to making decisions would be of great help in

preventing oneself to commit these sins. The same principles apply when it comes

to nursing leadership. From carrying out doctors orders to supervising, a nurse

leader will be bombarded with series of difficult situations and have to call the

shots. A nurse leader has to carefully and holistically assess the situation and

should have a foresight on whatever decisions hell make.

I also realized that too much desire for inordinate things will lead to a

devastating result. Like what is happening in Marawi City, a group of militants

driven by greed were motivated and willing to do such horrific acts of terror that

caused the lives of hundreds of people and other thousands displaced. According

to Maslows hierarchy of needs, each individual is unique and has different

motivations in achieving self-actualization that leads people in different directions.

Choosing the right motivation will probably lead an individual to a better position.

I learned that I should make my family as my source of inspiration, God as my

strength and others who are in dire need of help as my motivation that I would be

able to help them someday.
