ComposerCerealBoxProject

Students will decorate a real cereal box with illustrations and information related to a music
composer they choose using the directions below. I expect all directions to be followed, so a
copy of the rubric that will be used to grade the report has been attached. You may choose any
composer you wish, from any time period. It MUST be a composer (e.g. Mozart, Beethoven,
Schubert, John Williams etc.) Attached is a list to give you some ideas; if you have questions or
concerns about who to choose please see me ASAP. Enjoy this, its going to be fun!

FRONT OF BOX: Use a piece of white or light colored paper to cover the front, back, and sides
of your cereal box. (You will probably want to create the cover before gluing it on your box.)
Include the name of the cereal and a picture. Invent a name for the cereal that is related to your
composer and sounds like a cereal. Choose a shape for the cereal as well as colors and
ingredients that all relate to the composer. For example, if your composer is Johannes Brahms,
you could call your cereal Raisin Brahms, a bran cereal in the shape music notes.
RIGHT SIDE: Make a list of ingredients that include pieces your composer wrote. Be creative!
LEFT SIDE: Create a list of at least 5 quotes by your composer and explain what they meant
and their significance.
BACK OF BOX: The back of your box should contain a summary of your composers life. It
should include important dates, where they were born, how they grew up, famous pieces they
wrote, teachers they studied with, etc. Do some research and tell me their story! Your summary
should be at least 3 paragraphs.
TOP OF BOX: Include the name of our composer and a slogan to sell your cereal. (i.e. Theyre
musically delicious!) Also, include your name and grade.
PRIZE: Cereal boxes often include a prize. Your prize must be something related to the topic of
your composer. You can even include a picture of the prize on the front of your box to let the
reader know what is inside the box.

Your Cereal Box Report IS DUE Tuesday, June 13th 2017. Late reports will lose points.
