ArcelorMittal
Estate Fencing
at the Driffield
show
For over 25 years ArcelorMittal Sheffield has been producing
wire fencing and barbed wire to the highest standards. The
wire that is used in manufacture of fencing and barbed wire
is GUARANTEED to last at least twice as long as wire made
to BS EN 10224-2 Class A.

There is also a longer life guarantee

on the wire used in their HT Fencing
with 4Life wire used on both the top
and bottom wires to give even longer
life in the wires that bear the brunt of
weather and wear and tear.

It was this wire that was used in the

Fencing competition at the Driffield
show of which ArcelorMittal are proud
to sponsor. All of the competitors
appreciated the centreless cores
which meant the fence rolls out easier
and quicker. In addition the fence
will not snag back on itself when
unwinding. This also means each
roll has the full length of the roll as
a usable stockfence The fencing has
deep crimps to aid in erection and
to provide climatic elasticity so the
fence cannot slacken off, whatever
the weather.

Uniquely in their approach to the

market, ArcelorMittal believes in
reaching the market place through
retailers and distributors offering
local services. Local suppliers are
able to supply other essentials such
as posts, fixings and the other tools
of the trade along with advice and a
friendly ear when required. Fencing is
about a whole lot more than buying
wire directly from a manufacturer with
minimum order quantities, delivery
restrictions and other constraints. It is
their long held belief that by working
closely with their partners they will
supply a high quality product at a
competitive price.

New menace to the UK Fencing

industry : Zombie companies
There are now 178 companies
in the UK Fencing industry that
are “Zombie” businesses. These
companies have seen their
performance deteriorate to such an
extent that they now exist merely to
pay off their debts and survive.

David Pattison, author of the new

Plimsoll Analysis, explains, “These
companies are in a state, posting
growing losses and, despite the
obvious freeze in the credit markets,
increasing their debts. They are

Pattison also explains the other major

problems these Zombies are facing,
“They are falling behind the rest and
their productivity is well below the
industry average. It’s hard for them
to compete as their cost base is just
too high.”

So can these Zombies be saved?

One of Yorkshires longest businesses

If you went down to the woods near

to mention the groans of spectators in
the Shed building competition and the
gasps of wonder at the tree sculpting

was the specially set up museum tent
which housed exhibits and displays
