ThisdocumentdescribeshowtoreplaceaSmallFormFactorPluggable(SFP)module
onboththeTotalControl3000andTotalControl3100chassis.

SFPOverview SFPsfunctionasthephysicalinterfacetothenetworkinfrastructure.SupportedSFP
typesare:
CopperSFPTransceiver:1000BASETXEthernetcoppertransceiverwithRJ45
connector.CAT5Ethernetcablesareusedwiththesetransceivers.
OpticalSFPTransceiver:1000BASETXEthernetopticaltransceiverwithLC
connector.Optical(fiber)cablesareusedwiththesetransceivers.WHENPRESENT,
OPTICALMODULESARECLASS1LASERDEVICES.
Caution:
Opticalcablesmustbehandledwithcaretoavoiddamagingthecablebygoingunder
theirminimumbendradiusandtoavoidcontaminatingtheendofthefibercablewith
dustordirt.Alwaysplaceadustcoverovertheendofafibercableafterremovingit
fromtheSFPtransceiver.

OnlySFPTransceiverspurchasedfromStarSolutionsmaybeinstalledintheTotal
Control3000andTotalControl3100.

RemovinganSFPTransceiver ToremoveanSFPtransceiverfromthechassis:
ESD:
Toreducetheriskofelectrostaticdischarge(ESD),takepropergroundingprecautions
beforeremovingorreplacinganSFPmodule.
1 Powerdownthechassis.OntherearoftheTotalControl3100chassis,movethesingle
PSUon/offswitchtotheOFFposition.OntherearoftheTotalControl3000chassis,
movebothofthePSUon/offswitchestotheOFFposition.
2 DisconnectthecablefromtheOpticalorCopperSFPTransceiver.
3 RefertoFigure 1andswingtheSFPbaillatchawayfromthechassis.
4 PulltheSFPbaillatchawayfromthechassistoreleasethelatchingmechanismonthe
SFPmodule.
5 GrasptheSFPonbothsidesandremoveitfromtheboard.
IftheSFPmoduleisremovedfromthechassisforanextendedperiodoftime,insert
thedustcoverplugintotheemptySFPtransceiverport.
