AbouttheDepartment

Department of Applied Physics was established in 1925 under University of Calcutta for Post Graduate
studiesinElectricalTechnologyandalliedsciences.Withtheyears,ithasproducedanumberofEminent
Teachers and Pioneer Technologists of national and international fame. Through ages, a number of
Departmentshave evolved from this Department as need of theday.Presently, this Departmentoffers
two B.Tech. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering, two M.Tech. degrees in

Motivationfororganizingtheworkshop

The behavioral study of entire power system phenomena under different normal as well as abnormal
situations is an utmost important to the system operators for maintaining uninterrupted and quality
supply to the consumers. The power system is prone to vulnerable mostly under transient phenomena
andhencetransientbehavioralstudythroughsomesoftwareistheprimaryfocusedareaofthesystem
operators,buddingengineersandotherresearchersandaswellasfacultymembers.Inmajorityofthe
cases,theavailablesimulatorsarenotrealtimebasedone,rathertheyareofflinesimulators.RealTime
Digital Simulator (RTDS) is such a unit where the real time phenomenon of power system can be
simulatedandstudied.RSCADsoftwareisutilizedbytheRTDSwhereasPSCADistheconventionaloffgrid
ones. This will help the participants in designing a suitable and needbased power system, both from
consumerandutilitiespointofview,andsimulatingitsperformanceonarealtimeplatform.

TargetAudience
Faculty members, Research Scholars, Selected Masters Students from different academic Institutions,
ProfessionalsfromPowerUtilityIndustries.

Outcomeoftheworkshop

Theoutcomesoftheworkshoparethreefolded:

This will help the participants in designing a suitable and needbased power system and
simulating its performance on a real time platform. Thus knowledge of power system will be
enhanced.
