PUMPING STATION
CALCULATION SHEET

1-Flow to network according to sanitary calculations:-

stage 2025 2040

Q max (l/s). 30 30

2-Sump diameter

Calculation of sump diameter are carried on the maximum

discharge for (2nd) at Qmax = 30 l/sec
Using 2 pumps (1 duty+1 standby). Qpump = 30 l/s

-Assume No. of pump starts per hour = 10, so T (min) = 6

3-Manometric Head
Minimum water level in sump = -3.9
Maximum water level through the force main = +5.16

Static Head (m) = Hst = 5.16-(-3.9) = 9 m

1-st stage
Q = 0.03 m3/sec
C =150
The pipe line length = 2550 m
Friction losses( Hf) = Force main length * losses
From Hazen William Equation:-
Q
Velocity (V) = 0.355 C D 0.63 J 0.54
A
1 / 0.54 1 / 0.54
V 4Q
J 0.63
(m Loss/m length)
0.355 C D 2

D 0.355 C D
0.63

J = 3.8 m/km
Take secondary losses 20 % of frictional losses
Thus Hf = 12 m
H man H st H f
Total manometric head
(Hman)= 9+12 = 21 m
Take Hman = 21 m
Working range (16- 24) m

2-nd stage
Q = 0.03 m3/sec
C =130
The pipe line length = 2550 m
Friction losses( Hf) = Force main length * losses
From Hazen William Equation:-
Q
Velocity (V) = 0.355 C D 0.63 J 0.54
A
1 / 0.54 1 / 0.54
V 4Q
J 0.63
(m Loss/m length)
0.355 C D 2

D 0.355 C D
0.63

J = 4.97 m/km
Take secondary losses 20% of frictional losses
Thus Total Hf = 15.21516 m
H man H st H f

Total manometric head

(Hman)= 9 + 16 =25 m
Take Hman = 25 m

Working range (20-28) m

4-Pumps:-

Supply 2 pumps (1duty+1 standby)

The capacity and head of pumps as in below table:-

Year 2025 2040

Qpump (l/s) 30 30
Head (m) 21 25
Working range 16-24 20-28

5-Piping system

i-Delivery pipe
Assume delivery pipe diameter (mm) = 200 mm
The velocity in delivery pipe for 1-st and 2-st are

stage 1 2
Qpump (l/s) 30 30
Velocity (m/s) 0.95 0.95

Take delivery pipe diameter = 200 mm

6-Power Calculations:-

1-st stage

Pump power = 9.81*Hman* Qpump *1.2/

Pump power = 9.81* 21* 10-3 * 30* 1.2/0.5 =14.8 15 kw
According to Egyptian code, take safety margins 30 % so that,
The power = 15*1.3 = 19.5 Kw 20 Kw
Number of pumps in duty = 1
Total power at starting condition (kw) = 2* 20=40 kw= 50 K.V.A

Generator:-

Supply and erect one diesel generatorof capacity not less than 50kVA
for 1-ST.

2-nd stage

Pump power = 9.81*Hman* Qpump *1.2/

Pump power = 9.81* 30 * 10-3 * 25 * 1.2/0.5 = 17.66 kw 18 kw
According to Egyptian code, take safety margins 30 % so that,
The power = 18*1.3 = 23.4 Kw 24 Kw
Number of pumps in duty = 1
Take lighting load and accessories = 20 Kw
Total power at starting condition = 2*24 = 48 kw =60 K.V.A

Generator:-

Supply and erect one diesel generatorof capacity not less than 60kVA
for 2-ST.

Transformer Power calculation :-

Transformer power calculation will be based on the power of 2nd stage

Light & Accessories = 15 KW
Total Power = 20 + 24 = 44 KW
Total Power in K.V.A. = 44/0.8= 55 K.V.A
By taking load factor 80%
By taking power factor=0.8
Total Power of Transformer in K.V.A. =55/0.8= 69 K.V.A
It is required to install two distribution transformers (11/0.38KV)(1 duty + 1
stand-by) of capacity 100 kVA each .
The transformer is selected according to calculations of stage2
