Grading:
The exam contains x problems worth a total of 75 points. This exam represents 18.75% of the
overall grade for this course.
Your solutions must clearly show all steps employed to obtain an answer. You may receive gen-
erous partial credit on multi-step problems where a calculation error was propagated throughout
the remainder of the problem, but only if the remainder of your work is chemically and mathe-
matically sound, and is presented in a legible, straightforward manner.
Only work within the problem boundary will be considered for partial credit.

Cover page:
This top page is a scratch sheet containing a periodic table, a table of electronegativity values,
some equations, and constants. This page should be detached and employed as a reference
throughout the exam.
No work on this scratch sheet will be graded.

Allowed / forbidden items:


Mobile phones are strictly forbidden at any time during the exam period. Observation of a mo-
bile phone will result in an immediate grade of zero for the exam.
Scientific calculators and rulers are allowed. Calculators and rulers may not be shared between
students during the exam.
Scratch paper is not allowed.
You may bring in one 3 5 index card containing notes of your choice, however this index card
must be stapled to the exam upon submission. No work on this index card will be graded.

Timing:
This portion of the exam must be completed in one sitting during the 50-minute lecture period.
Only students having discussed special accommodations with Prof. Grimm may employ addi-
tional time.
If you leave the exam room at any time during the testing period, your exam will be considered
complete.
