Traffic Jam in Bandung City

Bandung city is one of the big cities in Indonesia. The population growth in Bandung city
rapidly increase. The phenomena that is followed by the expansion of economic, social, and political
aspects makes Bandung one of tourism destination. Unfortunately, this positive outcome bring
about some problem to Bandung city. It is the traffic jam which routinely happens everyday and
getting worse on the weekend. Ill tell you why this problem happened in the city, where is this
traffic problem happened specifically, and its effect toward the city.

First, this traffic problem emerge in Bandung city because the infrastructure of this city
cannot support the growth of vehicles. This is the biggest mistake that Bandungs government
cannot forecast. Size of the roads in this city is not ideal enough to support the flow amount of
vehicles. But I think it is not just the governments mistake, it also caused by development of trading
which increase reputation of the city as shopping paradise. This reputation makes people who live in
another city such as Jakarta, Cianjur, Tasikmalaya comes to Bandung to spend money on Distro
(distribution stores), FO (factory outlets), malls, and the other shopping places. It will instantly
increase the amount of vehicles of this city and of course causing traffic jam.

Second, Bandungs highest traffic jam occurred in Ir. H. Juanda Street, Braga Street,
Cihampelas Street, and Setiabudhi Street. Why all of those streets always face this traffic trouble? It
is because those streets are trading place which is heart of the citys business. People do business
there, people do shopping there, and people do leisure activities there. The traffic condition on
these roads are so frustrating. As an example, you have to spend 2-3 hours in your car if you wanted
to go to Lembang via Setiabudhi Street on weekend. It is so frustrating isnt it?

Third, this uncontrolled problem is causing many effects especially for the residences of
Bandung. The local motorist should spend more time on their vehicles, which wasting their
productive time. This issue will also cause an uncomfortable situation for tourists. They will sum up
that Bandung citys government is not seriously treating this issue and find the solution as soon as
possible. Well, negative impression is not one of the ways to attract tourists I guess.

In my conclusion, the government of Bandung city have to face this problem and find the
most effective solution if we still want Bandung to be one of the famous tourist traps in Java Island.
They need a regulation to control the amount of the vehicles in Bandung and I think improving the
public transportation could be the solution to attract the tourists, and also reduce the local motorist
in this city.
