Trends for LV switchgears

More and more intelligent devices inside switchgear

Offer a lot of information, measurement and statistical data

Parameterization or configuration is required
Proprietary software for every device is needed

SIMOCODE pro motor protection & control

>300 setting parameter

>200 status signals
>20 measurement values
>20 statistical values
> 600 pages manual

SIMOCODE ES software tool for engineering, commissioning,

monitoring & diagnostic

Trends for LV switchgears

Switchgears are developing from distribution module to control

node (transparency from control level down to every single
feeder)

Power monitoring and energy Management inside switchgear

assemblies becoming more and more important and are mostly
independent from control level (Efficiency, Green Energy,
Energy change and new requirements for distribution and
service reliability)

Higher requirements for reliability condition based

maintenance instead of reactive or preventive maintenance,
compensation of external interference factors

Requirements on an intelligent switchgear assembly

Simple and safe usage

High availability without or with schedulable downtimes only

Minimized maintenance efforts

Safe and reliable connection to process control

Cost savings at purchase, operation and maintenance

HMI for LV switchgear assemblies until now

HMI Systems integrated into LV SWGR are nothing new in general

Until now: every HMI is specific and unique for every single switchgear
assembly because no SIVACON S8 is like another

High engineering effort, using WinCC flexible mostly:

Creation of Pictures, Faceplates, etc.
Creation of Data Access paths for every single signal

very often PLC needed for data acquisition

EXPENSIVE and not really attractive for customer (cost-benefit balance)

HMI for LV switchgear assemblies today

The solution:

Unified HMI System easy adaptable for every switchgear

The challenge:

Finding a way to use existing data of switchboard configuration

and design for creating the HMI automatically

HMI Software with adequate import interface is needed

realization

1. Possibility easy engineering during runtime no

(learning by doing changes in pictures and
using a very common HMI Software like possible) data structure possible
WinCC flexible:
Reasonably priced

2. Possibility Engineering & Runtime extremely high

Environment could be development and
Creating an own HMI Software System: designed for the needs of maintenance effort
SIVACON Switchgears

3. Possibility Data import Interfaces relatively high license

Using an open & highly customizable could be created individually costs
SCADA/HMI System WinCC OA extremely customizable
runtime online
modification possible

Slide 10 05/2013 Ponader / IC LMV MS R&D LVS SB
SIMARIS control
How it works

Mechanical design :
Number and type of panels per switchgear
Number and kind of feeders per panel
Physical location and size of panels and feeders

Stored in XML file (tens of thousands xml nodes per swgr)

Siemens AG 2013 All rights reserved.

Slide 11 05/2013 Ponader / IC LMV MS R&D LVS SB
SIMARIS control
How it works

Logical design :
Type and number of bus lines
Bus node addresses or IP addresses
Feeder tags and names

Stored in CSV file (hundreds of lines per switchgear)

Siemens AG 2013 All rights reserved.

Slide 12 05/2013 Ponader / IC LMV MS R&D LVS SB
SIMARIS control
How it works

XML import via XML-Control Extension

Parse for typicals (feeder and panel types)
Parse for number of panels
Parse for physical location
storing in dynamic mapping

CSV analysis via file and string functions

Search for Location tag (unique feeder identification)
Association of Feeder tags/names, bus node addresses with
technical/mechanical data out of XML-file)
adding to dynamic mapping

Slide 13 05/2013 Ponader / IC LMV MS R&D LVS SB
SIMARIS control
How it works

Fully automated:
Creation of data points for every Feeder regarding its type
out of master data points

Setting of address configs

Creation of faceplates (xml-files) for panels out of

templates by using mechanical configuration data

Association of faceplates and data points via $-variables

Creation of Panel topology and sum alerts

Slide 14 05/2013 Ponader / IC LMV MS R&D LVS SB
SIMARIS control
How it works

After finalized generation process HMI is immediately

usable (time for whole creation process depending on
total size of switchgear <10 min)

Slide 15 05/2013 Ponader / IC LMV MS R&D LVS SB
SIMARIS control
How it works

Covers >80% of intelligent feeders and devices used in

SIVACON Switchgears

unknown devices and specialties could be individually

added by engineer

All significant settings for WinCC OA managers (drivers,

control, ui) are made automatically during generation process

data base (data points) for important information (e.g. typical

properties) is created for changes during runtime

Slide 16 05/2013 Ponader / IC LMV MS R&D LVS SB
SIMARIS control
Why runtime changes?

A LV Switchgear is alive regarding customer needs or

process requirements feeders can be added, removed,
replaced during life time of switchgear

HMI has to be adapted to new configuration

Until now runtime file (executable) was not editable

Changes had to be incorporated and new runtime file had to
be generated by supplier (by us)

Slide 17 05/2013 Ponader / IC LMV MS R&D LVS SB
SIMARIS control
Why runtime changes?

By using WinCC OA operator is able to make changes by his

own hands without any knowledge of HMI engineering and
having a engineering license:

Simple changes: changing feeder names/tags = changing

data point values

Complex changes: adding/ removing/ replacing feeders =

regenerating of faceplates, adding/ removing/ activating/
deactivating of data points

Siemens AG 2013 All rights reserved.

Slide 18 05/2013 Ponader / IC LMV MS R&D LVS SB
SIMARIS control
How runtime changes are made?

Data structure is rebuild by using known typical data an feeder

data out of creation data base

Operator can apply his changes via guided tabular interface

Preview is created out of changed data pool

If operator confirms, changes to panel files (faceplates) and

data points will be applied

Data/license model

Data point type for every common device was developed

Contains all possible data to cover all possible

parameterizations

Large number of data point elements incl. I/O (up to 300 per
device: measurements, status signals, statistical data, etc.)

small amount used (depending on device parameterization)

License model via I/O unfavorable License depending on

number of devices (small, medium, large, huge)
