The Format for Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of the IQAC

Name of the Institution: S.R.R. Government Arts & Science College, Karimnagar,
Andhra Pradesh

Year of Report : 2009- 2010

Section A: Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the
year towards quality enhancement.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college pursues the
following objectives in order to ensure quality and excellence:

1. To monitor and review research activities promoting research culture and


outlook among the students.
2. To encourage the faculty to acquire higher qualification (M.Phil./ Ph.D./
Post-Doctoral Research)
3. To undertake Minor and Major Research Projects
4. To attend and organize Seminars, Workshops, Study Projects, Field Trips
beneficial to the students.
5. To encourage the faculty to attend Refresher/ Orientation Courses to
update their knowledge and skills.
6. To motivate the faculty to adopt Interactive and Learner- centred Teaching
Methods.
7. To impart Life Skills and Employability Skills offered by JKC, DRC, STP and
the Career Guidance and Counseling Cell.
8. To encourage the faculty to Adopt Modern Educational Teaching Aids (Audio-
visual) motivating the students to utilize the library and the Internet.
9. To motivate the students to participate in Community Development and
Extension Activities of NSS/NCC/Sports & Games.

Section B: Details in respect of the following:

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:


To fulfill the vision and mission of the institution various activities have
been taken up by improving the quality of teaching. The IQAC of the college
monitors the academic and administrative activities for quality sustenance
and enhancement.
a. The College has the tradition of encouraging the faculty to
participate and to organize National/ State level seminars and
workshops to keep pace with the latest trends in the subjects,
updating their knowledge and skills and to interact with the academic
experts.
The Department of Commerce organized a UGC sponsored
National Seminar on Impact of Globalization on Indian
Economy on 22nd and 23rd January 2010. It was inaugurated
by Prof. Mohd.Iqbal Ali, V.C., Satabahana University, Prof.
J.V.Joshi, Director, School of Management, Sri.Ramananda
Tirtha Maratwad University, Nanded and Prof.V.Gangadhar,
V.C., Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda was the Chief
Guest of the Valedictory. 18 Resource person participated in
the seminar and 56 research papers were presented. The
seminar souvenir was also published the seminar and
released.
The Nodal JKC centre of the college organized two 6-day
workshop funded by the Board of Intermediate Education for
Junior Lecturers and Principals working in the District on
Computer Awareness, M.S.Office. 40 JLs participated in the
Workshop.
b. To update the knowledge base and to provide a wide exposure to the
students in the subject, several departments have arranged extension
lectures.
The Department of Botany organized a lecture on Tissue
Culture and Its Applications by Dr.G.Narendra Babu in
August 2010 and on Gene Therapy by Prof. S.Ram Reddy,
K.U., Warangal in November 2009.

The Industrial Micro-biology Department organized a talk on
Auto Immunity by Dr.Ch.Pradeep Kumar in February 2010.
The Department of Micro-Biology (P.G.) organized a talk on
Immunity to Infections Diseases in December 2009.
The Telugu Department organized on extension lecture on
Sri Krishna Devaraya Sahityam by Dr.D.Narahari Acharya in
August 2009.
The Physics & Electronics Department had a talk in Digital
Electronics by Dr.K.Krishna Kumar, GDC(W) Warangal in
September 2009.
The Department of Economics organized a talk on SEBI and
Share Markets by D.Niranjana Chary, C.A. in February 2010.
Prof. T.Bharath spoke on Employment Opportunities to
Commerce Students organized by the Commerce
Department in December 2009.
The Department of Chemistry organized a lecture on
Electronic Spectra of Complexes by S.Srihari, Kakatiya
University, Warangal in January 2010.

d. Besides the regular Undergraduate and Post-Graduate programmes,


the institution offers Certificate Courses in Communicative & Soft
Skills, Basic Computer Skills (MS-Office), Tally Course,

Communication and Journalism, Journalism & Translation and Film
Making. There was overwhelming response from the students.
e. The college also offers UG and PG courses through Distance Education
of Dr.B.R. Ambedkar Open University Regional Centre and SDLCE of
Kakatiya University. The response to these courses and the results are
quite satisfactory.
f. The Library in the newly built Block continues to offer its qualitative
services to the students. Latest books & Journals are added to the
Library. Better amenities are provided to the students and faculty.
The Library has subscribed to five computer magazines, a collection
of CD lessons on various subjects and issued to the interested
students. Paper clippings regarding the news covered about the
activities of the college are collected and kept in the Library. Subject
related clippings and career opportunities are kept at the disposal of
the students for reference.The Library Department takes the
responsibility of showing MANA TV lessons to the students.

2. New academic programmes initiated (UG & PG) :


A new under-graduate programme, B.Sc. (Botany, Chemistry & Micro-
biology) was started during 2009-10.
Apart from the existing 17 UG and 05 PG regular programmes the college
offers M. Sc. Botany, Zoology and Chemistry courses through distance mode
of K.U., S.D.L.C.E.
3. Innovations in curriculum design and transaction:
The college, as an affiliated institution to Kakatiya University, follows the
curriculum designed by the university. But the Senior faculty as given below
who are appointed as Members of BoS, have a major say in curriculum
design and revision of syllabi

4. Interdisciplinary Programmes started:
In addition to core and allied subjects interdisciplinary approach is
adopted in framing the curriculum of Arts, Science and Commerce subjects.
5. Examination Reforms Implemented:
All the examination reforms initiated by the University are followed.
The exam process is computerized. Practical exams are introduced in Maths,
Commerce and English subjects.

6. Candidates Qualified NET/SLET/GATE etc.,:


Post-graduate students are encouraged to appear for NET/SLET
exams. They are advised to join coaching classes offered by Kakatiya
University during summer vacations.
7. Initiative towards faculty Development Programmes:
05 faculty members are pursuing M.Phil and 03 Ph.D. Staff are
encouraged to take up research work and Minor/Major Research Projects.

To inculcate research attitude among the students linkages with the
agencies are established and continued
The Department of Zoology in collaboration with Prathima Institute of
Medical Sciences (PIMS), Karimnagar runs certificate course in clinical
pathology.
The department of Botany has linkage with in the seed processing
unit to undertake students projects.

16. Internal resources generated:
At the rate of Rs.10/- for each fresh admission is collected
and credited to CPDC fund.
At the rate of Rs.3000/- collected from each students who
seeks admission in restructured courses and also fee
collected from self financed PG courses are credited to the
college account.
Resources are generated by introducing certificate courses.
The college ground is also utilized for organizing sports
events by various associations. They pay a nominal rent of
Rs.500/- towards maintenance charges.

18. Community Services:
a. NSS Activities:
There are four (4) NSS units with 250 volunteers functioning in this
college under the active guidance of the Programme Officer, viz.,
Dr.S.Manohara Chary, Sri.T.Rajamani and Dr.P.Rajalingam and
Dr.K.Ramakrishna. The NSS volunteers are actively taking part in
various activities like environmental protection, Health awareness
programmes, blood donation, literacy drive and other social service
activities. The following are the highlights of the NSS Programmes
during 2009-10
R.Srinivas, B.Sc. III Yr participated in Adventure
Mountaineering Training NIC Camp for 15 days.
Shramadana Programme in the college campus for 5 days
Participated in the NSS Mega Camp at Kakatiya University,
Warangal from September 18, 2009 to September 24, 2009.

NSS volunteers collected an amount of Rs.10,000/- to help
the flood victims.
Participated in the District level Mega Camp at Bejjanki from
26/11/2009 to 02/12/2009.
Organized Winter Special Camp from 12/01/2010 to
19/01/2010 at Chamanapally and Elabotharam Villages as
part of Swami Vivekananda Birth Anniversary Celebrations.

Parade in New Delhi on 26/01/2010.

The college NCC unit has organized national cancer
awareness rally, Rajiv akshay Urja diwas Rally, Visit to Blind
School, AIDS awareness through Red Ribbon Club and
Sadbhavana Rally.

Eco Club & IYRW:


Eco Club & Indian Youth Red Cross Wings are functioning
effectively to impart awareness about the Health & Hygiene;
Environment and Dangers of pollution through various
community programmes.

Health Centre:

The center organized Blood Donation Camps with the
cooperation of NSS and NCC Units of the college
Lead India 2020
With a view to inculcate good habits, personality development,
character building, service motto particularly among the youth
and to make them responsible citizens, Lead India 2020 concept
based on social service is established in the college and the club
arranged extension lectures on personality development

A new well-furnished Library building has come up. It houses
48,765 volumes and latest Journals.
Library facilitates a separate reference section for PG

and faculty.
It is automated with SOUL Software of Inflibnet.

Introduced at all the levels and quality is being monitored for
the selection of best teacher on the basis of the feed back by
the students.
At the end of each academic year, the outgoing students
informally give their evaluation of the teachers and also
express their suggestions and grievances for the improvement
of teaching programems or curriculum.
24. Feedback from Stakeholders:

Feedback is collected from the students, parents, alumni and the
staff regarding the programmes offered and the performance of the
staff. Suggestions and complaints if any are promptly attended to.
Follow up action is discussed in the staff council and effective steps
are implemented.

Admission, Examination and Office work is partly computerized.
27. Increase in the infrastructural facilities:
The infrastructure of the college is well-maintained undertaking
repairs whenever necessary. Construction of compound wall and repair of
Toilets were undertaken utilizing MPLADS Funds Rs. 10 Lakhs. New
equipment and computers worth Rs.8.5 Lakhs acquired during the year
2009-10.

28. Teaching upgradation:


Library is automated with SOUL Software of INFLIBNET.
Creation of College Website.
Preparations for the establishment of e-conference hall.
LCD projectors are available for Seminars & Conferences
purpose.

29. Computer and Internet access and training to the Teachers and
Students:
All the teachers are being trained to possess skills on computers. Most
of the departments are now having computers with broadband
facilities.
30. Financial Aid to Students
All the students belonging to SC,ST & BC communities are
awarded scholarships. Those residing in students managed

hostels are paid mess charges by the Govt. of Andhra
Pradesh.
Meritorious students, minority students, handicapped
students and children of Beedi workers are liberally awarded
scholarships by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.
31. Activities and support from the Alumni Association
The Alumni Association of the college always extends its helping hand
for the upkeep and maintenance of the college.
32. Activities and support from the parent-teacher association
The parent-teacher association always offers its feedback in
developing the academic quality of the institution.
The college on the advice of parents organizes interface
programmes between parents, teachers and students in
collaboration with reputed companies & other agencies to
give guidance on career opportunities and preparing them for
competitive & National talent examinations.
33. Health Services:
The NCC and NSS volunteers, other students, staff voluntary donate
in the Blood Donations camps organized in the college. health camps
are arranged in the camp with the cooperation of the Alumni.
34. Performance in Sports Activities:
This year 11 players of the college represented Kakatiya University
teams in All India University Tournaments and South Zone Tournaments.
20 players of this college procured employment this year in various
Government Departments exclusively on the basis of their superb
performance in Sports & Games.
35. Incentives to outstanding sports persons:
Appreciation certificates will be given to the sports persons
as a token of their participation
Winners in sports & games and also outstanding players are
felicitated track suits & dresses including payment TA & DA
Dress code is followed during tournaments; sports persons
are supplied with dresses

Gold Medal along with appreciation certificates to the
outstanding sports persons are presented during College Day
Celebrations every year.
Three Sports Persons secured employment in South Central
Railways under sports quota.

Career Guidance and Couselling unit of the college has been quite
active in conducting seminars and organizing recruitment melas.
38. Placement Services Provided to the Students:
This year 70 students were trained in four batches and they have
attended recruitment drives at Hyderabad. Six (6) students were selected
by IBSN, an American Company and they are presently working in
Hyderabad. 40 students completed Tally training successfully.

39. Development Programmes for Non-Teaching Staff:

Training in soft skills and computer knowledge is being given apart
from their regular administrative work.
40. Good practices of the Institution:
A regular Health Checkup is undertaken to the students and
staff of the institution by utilizing the services of retired Civil
Surgeon, this activity is a regular feature of the Health
Centre
Regular screening of films and documentaries related to
social and cultural heritage to create awareness among the
students.
To promote our tradition & culture, dance & drama events
are organized regularly.
41. Linkages developed with National, International, Academic/ Research
bodies:
Most of the departments have established linkages with several
organizations.
Department of Biotechnology established linkage with local
poultry & feed industries.
Department of Zoology has established linkage with Prathima
Institute of Medical Sciences, Karimnagar and also with local
diagnostic centers to create awareness to the students on.
Department of Botany has established linkage with local Seed
Processing Unit and the Department of Horticulture.
Department of Economics established a linkage with Vijaya
Dairy
Department of Physical Education established linkage with all
Games & Sports Associations, Police Department, Electricity,
LIC, Forest, Advocate Association and Deaf & Dumb
institutions.

Web counseling & Verification extension centre for ICET & EAMCET
counseling was established in the college during 2009-10 by APSCHE,
Hyderabad facilitating the students of this region.
The District Resource Centre has the arranged lectures by inviting the
eminent professors from the University to provide a wide range of
knowledge to the students.
Special Training Programme (STP) was started in April 2010 to provide
intensive coaching to 136 students in two batches to appear for competitive
examinations.
The District Collegiate Education Development & Review Committee
(DCEDRC) with the District Collector as Chairperson was constituted for the
all round development of the college. On recommendation of the Collector,
BC Study Centre was established in the College in June 2010 to train the
students for competitive examinations.

Section C : Outcomes achieved by the end of the year

1. Academic
a). The institution in fully geared for NAAC Re-accreditation. Letter of
intention has been submitted to the NAAC, RAR is being prepared.
b). The District Resource Centre has been strengthened. Extension lectures
are arranged. Intra-exchange of subject experts among the colleges in
the District are implemented.
c). A New UG Course in B.Sc. with Botany, Zoology and Microbiology
combination has been introduced. Two certificate courses in Journalism
and Translation and Film Making have been offered.
d). A UGC sponsored National Seminar on the Topic Impact of Globalization
on Indian Economy was organized on December 2009 successfully by
the Department of Commerce.
e). All the departments have been provided with computer facility with
Broad Band internet connectivity.
f). College website (www.srrgdckarimnagar.org.in) is functional.

Two faculty members, Dr.C.Sivaram and Dr.K.Murali have been
awarded Ph.D. degrees
Three faculty members (S.Gangadhar, P.Indira Devi & Masroor
Sulthana) are pursuing Ph.D.
Two faculty members completed M.Phil and three members are
half way through.
Two Minor Research Project were completed ( Dr.P.Rajalingam,
Smt. P.Premabai)
Three faculty members (S.Gangadhar, Dr.S.Manohara Chary and
Dr.K.Ramakrishna) are pursuing ongoing Minor Research Projects.

3. Administrative:
a). All the in-charge departments are delegated full freedom to chalk out
and implement curricular, co-curricular and extra curricular plans with
the coordination of IQAC..
b). Office work is monitored by the superintendent.
Office work is computerized. Admissions, scholarships and examinations
work is done online. Monthly pay bills are submitted to the Treasury
Office online. Salaries are credited to the Bank Accounts of the
employees concerned.
c). The Grievance Redressal Cell as been attending to the complaints /
suggestions received from the stakeholders periodically.

4. Extension Activities:
The NSS & NCC units and the Games & Sports Department have actively
taken up community oriented extension activities like environmental
protection, Health Awareness programmes, Blood Donation, Literacy Drive
etc., some of the highlights are given bellow: . The NSS volunteers are
actively taking part in various activities like environmental
protection, Health awareness programmes, blood donation, literacy
drive and other social service activities. The following are the
highlights of the NSS Programmes during 2009-10:

5. Infrastructure:

a). Proposals with estimates have been submitted to the UGC for
construction of Indoor Stadium.
b). A New Microbiology lab for PG programme has been established utilizing
Rs. 07.00 Lakhs from restructured courses funds
c). Office has been equipped with computers, scanners, printers and fax
machine.
d). Two Toilet Blocks have been renovated by utilizing MPLADS Funds of Rs.
10.00 Lakhs.

e). Repairs of the College Building have been undertaken wherever
necessary.
f). The College campus, the front circle have been well maintained with
landscapes, greenery, rose garden and medicinal & aromatic plants.
g). Proposals have been submitted to the Commissioner of Collegiate
Education, A.P., Hyderabad for coloring and snow cementing of the
entire college building. The Commissioner is kind enough to sanction Rs.
05.00 Lakhs towards this work, which is under progress.
h). New equipment has been added to the Gymnasium which is optimally
utilized by students and staff.

The college has taken up several innovative activities in the academic, co-
curricular, extra curriculum activities, Sports & Extension facilities to mould
the institution as a Centre for Excellence

1. Academic:
Preparation for NAAC Re-accreditation.
Strengthening the activities of District Resource Centre of the College.
Planning to offer more UG & PG courses including certificate courses in
computers and lab technology and also to design job oriented courses.
Strengthening of teaching through teaching aids.
To organize National Seminars in some more subjects.
Providing computer & internet facilities to all the departments.
Launching of college website.

2. Research:
To involve more staff members in Research activities.
To encourage the staff to involve in Major/Minor Research Projects.
3. Administration:
Decentralization of administration.
Computerization of Office Administration
Getting feedback through Grievance Redrassal Cell for improving quality
management.
4. Extension Activities :

Extension activities through NSS/ NCC IYRW and other supporting
services to bring laurels to the college and it will be our endeavor to
pursue these activities with more vigor as this has been the major
strength of the college
5. Infrastructure:
Construction of Indoor Stadium.
Construction of Golden Jubilee Block.
Modernization of Science Laboratories.
Modernization of Office & Auditorium Building.
Repairing of the College building.
Beautification and colouring of college building.
Strengthening of the existing gymnasium.
