Abstract

The aim of this project is to contribute towards the scientific investigation of the
environment of the moon. This project includes the mechanical modeling of a
Lunar Lander and its trajectory analysis from low lunar orbit (100 km above
surface of moon) till landing on the surface of moon. The trajectory analysis is
divided into various parts such as

1. velocity calculation
2. gravity turn descent
3. Terminal descent.

3D simulations are made to show the trajectory analysis that how the velocity of
the spacecraft changes during the course.

LabVIEW is used to perform all the calculations of trajectory analysis and to make
the 3D simulations as well. NI myRIO is used to measure the descent data of the
space craft and it will be used to control the panel and thrusters of the spacecraft.

Why exploring the moon is Important?

Scientific Knowledge.
To colonize space.
To find new raw materials.
To gain knowledge of asteroids.

How this project helps in moon exploration?

This project demonstrates the landing of Lunar Lander from low lunar orbit
through 3D animations.
Low Lunar transfer trajectories are discussed in detail.
Possible practical changes during the process are shown through a mock up.
A rover is made integrated with all the necessary sensors to do the
environment analysis.
