Plants can be separated into two distinct categories: monocots and dicots.
Leaves are another important structure of the plant because they are in charge of
Monocots and dicots are two major types of plants. They can be distinguished by
the number of first leaves, the cotyledons that emerge from the seed during
germination. The number of first leaves is also name-giving mono meaning one and
di meaning two. The mono-cots also known as mono-cotyledons form one first leaf
while the dicots (dicotyledons) form two. Mono-cots and dicots have other distinguishing
features, such as the arrangement of leaf veins or the number of furrows or pores in the
pollen. Both monocots and dicots form different leaves. Monocot leaves are
Dicot leaves have reticulate veination - in other words, the veins in the leaf form a
fine interconnected network. You can see this when you look at the back of a leaf, or if
you find a semi-rotted leaf in the forest, because the veins rot more slowly than the soft
tissue. Monocot leaves (orchids, lillies, onions, grasses, rushes, palms etc) have parallel
veins that diverge at the base of the leaf and join again at the tip.
the cells that carry water and nutrients up and down the stem show a significantly
different arrangement in these two groups. Monocots have the vascular bundles
scattered randomly throughout the stem. The vascular bundles of dicots are arranged in
concentric circles.

Results shows on the Microscopic view of the Monocot and Dicot leaves that Monocot
Leaves have parallel veins compared to Dicot leaves , where in the dicot leaves there
are interconnected networks or branching veins.
