CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCIENCE ALEXANDER FLEMING His great discovery: penicillin After World War I, Fleming returns to his laboratory at the University of Santa Maria. During his investigations, looking for to find an antiseptic that was able to stop the discovered infections in lysozyme, an enzyme that has antibacterial effect, although not the strong one. This enzyme is found naturally in some body fluids, such as tears. However, it was not his investigations and those that led to the discovery of penicillin, but a small domestic accident. BENJAMIN FRANKLING From 1747 he was mainly devoted to the study of electrical phenomena. He stated the Principle of conservation of electricity. In 1752 a cape in Philadelphia carried out his famous experiment with the kite. He tied one with a metal skeleton and a silk thread, at the end of which he wore a metal key. Making it fly on a stormy day, he confirmed that the key was charged with electricity, thus demonstrating that the clouds are charged with electricity and the beams are electric shocks. Thanks to this experiment he created his most famous invention, the lightning rod. He also invented the so-called Franklin furnace or Pennsylvania fireplace (1744), metallic and safer than traditional chimneys; Bifocal lenses, for your own use; A humidifier for stoves and chimneys; One of the first flexible urinary catheters to treat urinary calculi of his brother John; The odometer, in its stage of work in the Postal Office; The swimmer's fins, the crystal harmonica ... MARIE CURRIE The importance of Marie Curie for science is linked to her contributions to the study of radioactive phenomena (x-rays), a particularly striking physics domain. In 1911, Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, for the discovery of radio and polonium elements, among other contributions. The pathological effects of the management of radioactive substances were evident in Marie Curie, who presented the effects of her research. GALILEO GALILEI Galileo made remarkable scientific contributions in the field of physics. He proved the falsity of the Aristotelian postulate that the acceleration of the fall of bodies-in free fall-was proportional to weight, and conjecture that in the void all bodies would fall with equal velocity. For the effect sliding spheres downhill by the smooth surface of inclined planes with different angle of inclination. Among other notable findings are the laws of the pendular movement and the laws of accelerated motion. He discovered the laws of falling bodies and the parabolic tray of projectiles, studying the movement of the penis and investigating the mechanics and resistance of materials. He established what is now the flame of the Experimental Method. Galileo thought of the inclined plane for the purpose of writing the fall of a body and the ability to measure time. In free fall the fast-time relationship is proportional. Galileo laid the foundations of modern science, because he proposed a systematic method based on experimental verification of hypotheses or explanations about natural phenomena. All bodies must fall with the same rapidity in absence of air or any other external agent that opposes to fall, this was the hypothesis of Galileo. Galileo's goal was to describe in detail the movement of bodies in free fall. The movement in the inclined planes is similar to the one of free fall. Galileo perfected the telescope and allowed to make different discoveries. It showed that the surface of the Moon was not crystalline, but covered with craters and mountains; He discovered the sunspots, so he could determine the period of rotation of the Sun and the direction of the axis. He discovered the four major satellites of Jupiter and showed that not all the stars revolved around the Earth.
