Engmar Bremseth Family

Engmar was the ninth child born to Arndt and Beret Bremseth. He was born in Newburg Township-
Filmore County. He lived and farmed in Fillmore County his entire life. In later years, he also sold seed
corn and drove a school bus. He moved to the Rushford area in 1939 and purchase the Davis Farm,
South of Rushford, in the mid-forties.

Engmar was one of those individuals who probably could have retired at a very early age and enjoyed
every minute of it. He had a keen sense of humor and a quick wit. And, not unlike some of his brothers
and sisters, was not known for is tact! But, it didnt seem to matter, because he had lots of friends and
always got along well with his neighbors. He spent at least an hour each morning visiting. It never
took him less than an hour to load up his mild, drive the mile to town and pick up the mail. If a lot of
people were in townit sometimes took him two hours!

Engmar loved baseball, music, dancing, fishing and talking! He sang in church choirs, played the violin,
harmonica, accordion and any other instrument he could get his hands on. Friends remember him
playing for a dance on Saturday night, singing in the choir on Sunday morning and playing baseball on
Sunday afternoon. At age 62, he was still managing a softball team and playing when one of the regular
players couldnt make it. The night before his stroke, he drove 40 miles to play dartball.

Anyone who knew Engmar, would not dispute the fact that he probably held and still holds the worlds
record for keeping his car out of the ditchwhile glancing at the road less than 10% of the time! He had
also mastered the art of droving vehicles without brakes!

His grandchildren remember him as a funny man who would usually do anything they wanted him to
do, drank lots of milk, ate bread covered with sour cream and sugar and always had lemon drops in his
pocket. Those who lived close to him have fond memories of going fishing with grandpa.
