Ministry of Children and Youth Services Human Resources

Attention: Hiring Manager
Division: Feathers of Hope Project

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am interested in joining the ministry of Youth and Child Services as a Junior Policy Analyst. I
believe that my diverse set of skills along with my previous work and volunteer experience will
make me an ideal candidate for this position. If you need someone with excellent
communication skills, technical knowledge and passion I would love an opportunity to meet with
you. The resume attached reflects my academic background alongside my professional and
volunteer experience that best describes someone with a strong passion and interest in working
with people from many different backgrounds.

My previous experience highlights deeply on fundamental skills such as written and oral skills,
research analytics and computer skills that are keen areas of responsibility for the junior analyst
position. This will ensure that the services and tasks are completed in a professional and timely
manner. Achieving a BA at York University in Political Science allows me to have knowledge on
areas such as preparing briefing notes and policy and program development. This will allow me
to be a strong asset to the company.

Despite the lack of experience as a policy analyst, I have acquired a strong understanding of
policy development and analysis techniques that is transferable to my work in the public sector.

Being a volunteer with children and youths for many years, I would be very excited to be apart
of The Feathers of Hope Project. I admire that fact that a voice is given to hundreds of youths
about real life issues such as mental health, and cultural identity.

This issue is very dear to my heart because in 2016, I volunteered with an organization called
CRY India, where I assisted with the development and implementation of schools and education
in poverty stricken areas in India. I also helped with many fundraisers and charity events that
helped raise money for families and children and provide them with food and shelter. This really
opened my eyes because I realized how important it was to raise awareness of issues such as
abuse, poverty, mental health and education and help give a voice to those who feel as though
there voices will never be heard. I gained leadership and team building skills that helped me
create a safer and healthier community for children.

I would be honoured to be a part of the Feathers of Hope project because it stands for so many
things that I believe in and the motto it runs by Lets make hope real is something that I
passionately say to those who feel that all hope is lost. My previous experience has enabled me
to have a great understand how to talk with children, conduct thorough research about problems
revolving around youth issues as well collect information to support policy and program
development. More importantly it allowed me to participate in an initiative that I truly believe in,
and the Feathers of Hope is one that I would love to be apart of.

Being a policy analyst for the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and working for the
Feather of Hope initiative will allow to be affectively implement my skills, passion and knowledge
successfully into the organization. My ability to inquire knowledge and research will allow me to
conduct thorough information and knowledge about Aboriginal social issues and organizations
and programs and will benefit me to create professional spreadsheets, evaluate date as well as
discuss and exchange information with internal and external stakeholders in a professional and
friendly manner.

My educational and professional background has also strongly allowed me to gain an

understanding of policies, social issues and research techniques. Pursuing a BA in Political
Science at York University has given me a broad understanding of political movements, policies
and governmental insight, something that I can use in my professional tasks. I have taken
various courses in my third and fourth year such as the Political Economy of Canada and a
course on Public Administration that have revolved around public administration and the political
economy and has given me an understanding of how policy is developed and implemented, the
manner in which public administration has developed and key components in the public sector.
This included a prime focus on organizations, budgeting and research analysis. These are key
components that I can take and implement in my professional life as a Junior Analyst.

Knowing that a key component of the Feathers of Hope Project is the recommendation given by
the youth that focuses on the unity of the Provincial and Federal Government and First Nations
leadership to take immediate action and meet the needs and challenges faced by youth. My
previous knowledge in politics and administration gives be a great understanding of how these
changes can be made and how the Government and Governmental workers operate. I can take
my understanding and reflect it in the tasks that I am given, and also assist others in there
inquiries. I would be able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders in an effective manner
and also help them with the concerns they are having as well as discuss research findings and
information. I would love to be a part of this initiative and would love the opportunity to be the
Junior Policy Analyst for The Ministry of Children and Youth Services.

I look forward to discussing my application with you in further detail.

Thank you very much.

In Confidence,

Summandeep Dass
