Laboratory Exercise No. 2 & 3

TAPING OVER SMOOTH AND LEVEL GROUND AND UNEVEN AND SLOPING GROUND
Title

I. Introductions:

Tapes are used in surveying for measuring horizontal, vertical or slope distance.
There are usually marked at every foot. At the end of the tapes, there will be finer
divisions.

In surveying, that undermost circumtances, all distance are presumed to be

horizontal distance. This dictates that every field measurements taken be either
measured horizontally, or if not reduced to a horizontal distance mathematically.

II. Objectives:

1. To determine the horizontal length of a line over smooth and level ground with
the tape supported throughout its length.

2. To determine the horizontal length of a line over uneven and sloping ground by
the method of breaking tape.
III. Methodology:
A. INSTROMENTAL AND ACCESSORIES:

1. 30 m or 100 ft. measuring tape

2. Range Poles
