Textbook:
William E. Boyce and Richard C. DiPrima, Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary
Value Problems, 9th Edition, Wiley.
(Online resources provided by the publisher: http://www.wiley.com/college/boyce)
Intended Learning Outcomes: Upon successfully completing the course, students should be
able to:
1. develop an understanding of the core ideas and concepts of Ordinary Differential Equations.
2. recognize the power of abstraction and generalization, and to carry out investigative mathe-
matical work with independent judgment.
3. apply rigorous, analytic, highly numerate approach to analyze and solve problems using
Differential Equations.
4. communicate problem solutions using correct mathematical terminology and good English.

Classworks: The problems (see the list below) will be discussed in tutorials. Some of them will
be collected during tutorials as your coursework assessment. Late submissions will not be assessed.
Midterm: The Midterm Test is scheduled on 29-June-2012 (Friday) in class. Details will be
announced later.
Final Examination: The Final Examination is scheduled on 31-July-2012 (Tuesday) in class. It
will cover everything in the course.
Course Assessment: 15% Coursework, 30% Midterm, and 55% Final Examination.
