The specialist tooling requirements and termination kits are detailed in Section 5 - Jointing
Materials.
1.1.2 Set up, clean and straighten cables to box allowing sufficient length for the
termination.
1.1.3 Mark datum point on cables and pass the shroud, compression nut and gland
nut down the cable.
1.1.4 Remove PVC sheath 45mm below datum point in an approved manner.
Under no circumstances must a knife be used to make the cut.
1.1.5 Apply tinned 18s copper binder at PVC cut and 18s tinned copper binder
25mm from PVC termination on aluminium earth wires.
1.1.6 Cut 2/3 through aluminium earth wires and snap off against binder.
1.1.7 Cut off binder lift earth wires slightly to allow for entry to gland.
1.1.8 Pass on gland to earth wires and secure by gland nut, offer up compression
nut and secure. For ease of application apply a smear of grease to the black
outer insulation.
1.1.9 Remove black outer insulation 25mm above datum, degrease insulation and
remove inner insulation to suit connection +5mm.
1.1.11 Secure cable in box and tighten to gland plate and connection.
1.2.1 Strip cable allowing for length of earth wires 100mm outer PVC.
1.2.3 Fit and shrink heat shrink sleeve over earth wires.
1.2.4 Form the earth wires and fit brass earth lug.
1.3.2 Set up cables, clean and allow sufficient length for box.
1.3.3 Mark datum point on cables, pass down cable compression nut, gland and
lower base plate nut.
1.3.4 Remove outer PVC at datum line and aluminium earth wires if present at same
point level with top threads of plastic gland (see 1.1.6 above).
1.3.5 Degrease and remove black outer insulation 25mm above armour termination.
1.3.6 Pass cable into box, fit lock nut and secure to base plate.
1.3.7 Remove inner insulation to suit shear-off bolt fittings, cut cable to length,
tighten shear off bolts and secure.
3.1. Transformer and Low Voltage Termination boxes require the use of brass glands.
Earthing arrangements shall be a standard gland at the Transformer box and an
isolating gland at the Low Voltage box.
