Describethetask*
The aim of the task was to get the ball from one chair to another. There were two teams made up of 6
individuals. The team I was on had achieved a time of 3.69 seconds and the other 5.58 seconds. The team
with the least amount of time won, therefore, my team won. The team leader was the only one allowed to
speak through the planning phase. The team members were handed rules that they had to inform the leader of
through actions and not verbal communication. Each team was provided 5 minutes to discuss their plans for
the activity and after discussing have one rehearsal to then fine-tune anything. For example; the ball wasnt
allowed to touch the ground, we werent allowed to touch the ball with any of our arms/hands, everyone had to
touch the ball and we werent allowed to touch either chair. The team dynamic was fairly balanced since the
team I was on had 3 boys and girls. We all worked very efficiently together with no arguments/disagreements
even with these restrictions.

Whatwasyourroleintheteam?*
Throughout the whole process, I was a team worker who had provided feedback to ideas brought up and some
of my own. I found myself to be more effective as a team worker, which was why I sought no reason to
interfere and take charge of the activity. We incorporated some of my ideas into the activity, although
sometimes they were disregarded.
Howdidyouperformasanindividual?*
As an individual, I believe I performed to the best of my abilities. I was able to effectively listen to the ideas the
other team members had contributed and provided feedback so we would alter any ideas that didnt sound
quite correct. When informing the leader of our rules, I easily demonstrated through moving my hand saying
we werent allowed to let the ball touch the ground. If I am to relate this to Belbins theory, I was an
implementer and team worker. I believe I was an implementer because I showed any ideas I had at the start
when we first thought to run with the ball in between our legs. Although, most of the time I was a team worker
since I had performed everything we had set out to do without arguing about it. In comparison to the rest of the
team, I believe I had provided the most ideas that could reduce time. Apart from that, everyone was on the
same level with no arguments.

Howdidyouperformasateam?*

As a team, I believe we performed to the best of our abilities and when compared to the other team I believe
we performed the best. As a team, our strengths were that we communicated efficiently, managed our time
effectively, supported each other's ideas, avoided any conflict from arising, listened to one another and overall
collaborated extremely well together. The other teams strengths were that they had come up with a variety of
ideas branching off their previous, which allowed them to find what suited them and which took less amount of
time to perform in the activity. The other team informed us that their weakness was that they were unable to
manage their time effectively, they had quite a few disagreements with one another over their ideas and ended
up interfering with their performance. Our weakness was that we had a rocky start with who would take what
role and such but apart from that we had a very smooth transition to the end.

If I was to relate this to Tuckmans theory, during the forming stage we had a few discussions regarding what
we should do and whod do what in those ideas. In comparison, the other team had done the same as us.
Moving on, we didnt necessarily go into the storming stage since there were no conflicts nor negativity
amongst us since we had decided who will be doing what and even experimented to see who fitted into their
role the best to avoid any arguments. In comparison, the other team had come up with several ideas amongst
each other, which created arguments over whos idea theyd do. During the norming stage, we were able to
come up with few ideas but that allowed us to then improve them further. During the performing stage, we
were able to win overall and efficiently carry out the idea we had come together with. Finally, the adjourning
stage is when we disbanded and went back to the classroom.

Whatwereyourweaknesses?*
As an individual, I believe my weaknesses during the task were: my physical abilities because when
experimenting who should run with the ball I held the group back so we were wasting time and I knew that I
wouldnt be able to form more effectively than the other members: Twain or Jack. Communication was another
weakness for I wasnt really able to throw my ideas out into the group seeing as how they were fully
developed in discussing. Finally, creativity because the ideas I wanted to bring up were quite obvious and
were very underdeveloped, which is another reason to why I sat on the sidelines providing a little feedback to
their ideas.
Howcouldyouimprovefornexttime?*
Next time, for myself, Id like to be able to express my ideas a bit more clearly so that we could then work
together to possibly develop it or even if they rejected it. As long as I was able to express my ideas so that I
feel like I contributed more often than naught. As a team, I believe we dont necessarily need to improve for a
second time because we worked together very well and managed to win overall so in my opinion I dont
believe we would need to improve but if we were to do it again wed most likely be able to get it down a lot
faster than our last recorded time. When it came to specific individuals, I didnt have any problems with Eliana,
Twain nor Jack. This may be very hypocritical of myself but I believe Aliza and Moneta needed to contribute
more to the group or attempt to in a way. Aliza rarely ever spoke when it come to storming ideas and just
watched, waiting for us to finish and then say she was able to do it without actually doing almost any work. The
same can be said about Moneta as well.

Wasthereanyconflictinthegroup?*
As Ive said before, our group worked well with a few individuals staying quiet quite often, which could easily
have been changed with an attempt to speak or share instead of nothing. There were no conflict seeing as
how we were all very reasonable, understanding and logical.

Howelsecouldyouuserelevanttheorytoanalysetheoverallperformancetoday?*
If I was to analyse our performance during the activity and relate it to some theories weve previously learnt
about then, I believe our group was using a very democratic leadership style. I say this because it was a
participative leadership experience seeing as the majority of the group were able to discuss or provide their
ideas without anyone dictating our decisions and final product. We had two-way communication throughout the
whole time making everything from decision-making to performing quite smooth.

If I was to refer this to Belbins theory, then Id have to say that my role as an individual I believe I was a
monitor evaluator and a team worker. The reason I believe I was a monitor evaluator is because I was able to
provide feedback that wasnt based on emotion but on how logical it seemed, in a real scenario would it work
out and what were the chances of it to fail etc. Also, I believe I was a team worker because I was able to do
whatever was necessary without arguing or disagreeing.
