As we waited for the show to begin, I learned that there were no
seats in front of the stage because the venue thought people might
want to mosh at the concert. So as we waited for the doors to open I
told people about show the night before and actually saw some people
from the previous nights show that had won tickets earlier that day.
When the doors opened I was about the 3rd or 4th person in and
ended up in the front row again in about the same location as I was
the night before. The stage was further back then it was in St. Louis so
lwas about 10 feet from Joe. The people around me were very
impressed with how close they were to the stage and I mentioned that
this was nothing compared to the night before. The guy next to me
had a balloon hat made for Joe which he sat on the stage after the Big
Blue Hearts set.
The set list for the Peoria show and the St. Louis show were the
same set list but the show was totally different. This audience in
Peoria was wild, as opposed to the St. Louis show who was more into
watching and listening to Joe. Both audiences though were thrilled
with Joe and the guys. Again it was cool to be able to see Joe play
guitar but I noticed that I didn't pay as much attention in Peoria as I

Later I tell this story to Annette. She has met Joe many times.
"What is the matter with you?" she asks, incredulous.
I just didn't recognize him. I recognized his sweatshirt.
Much later at the show, I take note of Joe's clothes. For nearly
every concert review there is a fashion report. Or rather, we report
frul"'rffiMY what Joe wears because it's always interesting, often humorous,
rarely fashionable. ln three concerts I saw leopard skin, tie-die,
paisley, blue denim, Hush Puppy, orange dayglo and something
fur that may or may not have been zebra stripe that was somehow
attached to the leopard skin. (This does not include hats.)
Once on stage, during a soundcheck, Joe wore a subdued maroon
'iyhwrhryr^ jersey. No one but a few of us saw him. (1, of course, had to be
prompted. Look, there's Joe.)
That's it. Unless Joe is wearing tie-dye, paisley or leopard skin, I
am unable to see him. He is outside my visual spectrum. He is my
ultraviolet, a kind of color blindness I must carry in a recessive
gene. I wonder if either of my parents can see him.
So another price of fame is that you have to wear bright, funny
clothes
