Unit 1: Problem Solving Process

Monday TEK: Math 7.2(A) Extend previous knowledge of sets and subsets using a
visual representation between sets of rational numbers.
- Students create graphic organizer depicting the sets of natural numbers, whole
number, integers, rational numbers, and irrational numbers.
- Students cut out a sheet of given numbers and past these numbers in the proper
area of the graphic organizer.
Tuesday TEK: Math 7.1(A) Apply mathematics to problems arising in everyday life,
society, and the workplace.
- Review strategies for approaching math problems. Focus on key words which
indicate what type of problem.
- Use volunteers to work through sample problems on the board as a whole class.
- Independent worksheet for remainder of class. Start struggling students with
teacher-led small group. Students may ask table groups for help, if needed.
Wednesday TEK: Math 7.1(B) Use a problem-solving model that incorporates analyzing
given information, formulating a plan or strategy, determining a solution,
justifying the solution, and evaluating the problem-solving process and the
reasonableness of the solution.
- Review strategies for approaching math problems. Focus on key words which
indicate what type of problem.
- Use volunteers to work through sample problems on the board as a whole class.
- Independent worksheet for remainder of class. Start struggling students with
teacher-led small group. Students may ask table groups for help, if needed.
Thursday TEK: Math 7.1(A); Math 7.1(B)
- Review showing work.
- Work missed problems and questions as a whole class.
- Use iPads to play Kahoot!
- Unit summary.
Unit 2: Addition and Subtraction of Rational Numbers
Friday TEK: Math 7.3(A) Add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers
fluently.
- Have a competition for completing simple mathematical problems. Three
students are given a problem and work it on the board.
- Students will rotate through several stations:
- Flash cards.
- Problems taped on the table.
- IXL.
- Manipulatives.
- Worksheet.
