Notes
Materials
yarn/wool in following colors:
white, light blue, dark blue (hooves, hair);
for sombrero: light brown, red, yellow
yarn or embroidery floss in black
crochet hook in fitting size (I used 3.5 mm)
filling
sewing needle, tapestry needle, scissors,
stitch marker
Skills level: easy.
The complete figure is worked in single
crochet only. This pattern does not include
basic crochet tutorials.

Hook size
I recommend using a hook thats smaller than
for usual crochet works because you should
keep the gauge as tight as you can so that
the stuffing doesn't show through.
Yarn and Wool
I used Bravo from Schachenmayr nomotta
(http://www.coatsgmbh.de). It's a DK 8-ply
acrylic yarn with a specified gauge of 30 rows
and 22 sts = 10 cm (7.5 rows and 5.5 sts = 1)
with recommended hook sizes of 3 to 4 mm.
My gauge (for single crochets in round):
6 rows and 5 sts = 1 with 3.5 mm hook

Size of finished figure
Using Bravo and hook size 3.5 mm Gonazles
turns out about 20 cm / 8 inches tall (from
ears to feet).
Some tips for making Amigurumis
I recommend beginning all rounds with an
adjustable ring (Magic Ring). This
method prevents the little hole in the
middle of your starting round.
(Alternatively you can also start with
2 chains and then work the first round into
the 2nd ch from hook.)
All rounds are worked in a continuous
spiral; do not join rounds with a slip stitch,
unless indicated.
You may find it useful to use a stitch
marker (e.g. a piece of yarn) for counting
your rounds.
When stuffing your Amigurumi (or parts of
it), take care to give each part a nice
shape, dont just put the filling in
randomly.
I also recommend taking your time when
making (embroidering) your Amigurumis
face. The face is such an important part
and gives character and expression to
your little creation. (I usually spend a lot of
time for this on every single Amigurumi)

Tail
With light blue:
ch 6; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of
the remaining 4 ch.
FO, leave a long yarn tail.
Take 4 strands of dark blue yarn, use the hook
to pull a small loop through the first sc of the
tail, then grab the 8 strands of yarn with your
hook and pull them completely through the
loop. Pull tight and cut at desired length.
Sew tail to body (between rounds 6 and 7 of
the body).

Attach one strap between rounds 12 and 13
on each side of the sombrero.
Hair
Take at least 14 strands of dark blue yarn
(depending on the yarn you are using you
may need to take more strands to make the
hair look nice).
Attach one strand with a sl st in each round of
the head starting above round 22 on the
center front, going up to the top and down
on the center back until you reach round 20.

Variant 1 (with holes for the ears)

Put the sombrero on the head or on the

back of your donkey and fasten the straps
on the front.
