5 - Year Integrated M.Sc. in Molecular Biology
2017-2018
About the course:
A unique course, which provides Integrated Master's Degree in Molecular Biology.

It is a course of five years duration with 10 semesters. Students from India and abroad with

PUC/10+2 or equivalent qualification in Science stream with at least 45% marks in aggregate
(excluding languages) and at least 45% marks in Biology are eligible to apply. This is
relaxable by 5% for SC/ST candidates.

Student intake is 20+2 (foreign seats).

Admission to this course is done on entrance test basis during the month of June every year.

It is a course under the partially self-financing scheme of the University of Mysore. 10 Seats

are filled under Scheme - A and remaining 10 Seats are filled under Scheme - B.

Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is being followed in the course since 2011-12.

Students have to obtain an average of 20 credits/semester and need to earn 200 credits by
the completion of the course. These credits are offered for course papers, projects etc.

Seminars and tests are conducted in each semester for the evaluation of the students.

During eighth semester students are taken on an educational tour to different research

institutes of our country.

Tenth semester is devoted exclusively for carrying out project work in reputed research

institutions.

Career opportunities :
Doctoral degree can be pursued with UGC/CSIR/ICMR etc. fellowships

Employment as Research Scientists and Research Associates in Molecular Biology, Cell

Biology, Biotechnology labs.

As professional Molecular Biologists they can get employment in Research and

Development (R&D) wing of Biotech industries.

As faculty in private or public universities, Research Institutes and Government departments.

Infrastructure:
The department has been equipped with modern facilities

Special lectures, seminars and workshops are arranged periodically to give exposure to the

students.

The departmental library has textbooks on the subjects of basic sciences and other allied

fields. Research Journals, project reports and other special publications are also available.
This is supplemented by the college library which is open to students throughout the year.

Students are provided with computer lab and internet facility.

Admission details :
Eligibility: Students from all over India, who have completed the Pre-University or equivalent
course in the science stream with at least 45% marks in aggregate (excluding languages) and at
least 45% in Biology are eligible. This is relaxable by 5% for SC/ST candidates. They should not
exceed 20 years of age as on the date of application and they should not be degree holders of
nationals..

Entrance Examination : A compulsory entrance test will be held at national level which will be
conducted at Yuvarajas College, Mysore. The date of the entrance examination will be uploaded
in the college website. Additional fee of Rs.350/- (Rupees Three Hundred and fifty only) for
entrance examination should be remitted, through a D.D. drawn in favour of the Principal,
Yuvaraja's College, Mysore payable at Mysore be sent along with the filled in application.

Application form : Candidates can obtain the application form from the Principal, Yuvarajas
College, Mysore or it can be downloaded from the college website www.ycm.uni-mysore.ac.in and
submit the same with the demand draft for Rs.350 (three hundred and fifty only)towards the
application fee drawn in favour of the Principal. Yuvarajas College, Mysore.

Submission of application form : The filled-in application form in all respects along with
necessary certificates and copies of marks cards and certificate relating to caste/ category in
case of claim for reservation under such category / caste should be submitted to the Course Co-
ordinator, Department of Molecular Biology, Yuvaraja's College, Mysore - 570005 on or before
04.06.2017 (latest by 4.30 P.M.).

Note :
1. Candidates who have studied Biology as one of optional subject in PUC only are eligible to apply for M.Sc. 5- Years Integrated Course in
Molecular Biology.

2. The Candidates belonging to SC/ST/CAT-1/GM/IIA/IIIA & IIIB are instructed to produce Income Certificate & form I (Latest Dt: 01/04/2017
Onwards or Valid Certificate) & applicable to them at the time of admission. Otherwise they will have to pay full fee. Incomplete applications will be
rejected.

3. *Re-Admission fee Rs.2,000/- and Change of Language or Optional per Subject (Only in II Semester/ (if any) Rs.2,500/-.

4. Physically Challenged students are eligible for 50% fee concession in admission fee. Those students must submit the certificate issued by the
competent authority. Failing which they have to pay full fee.

5. N.S.S. Fee Collected from Students shall be allocated as follows: The amount to be distributed in the ratio 2:2:1 among the College, University &
state NSS Cell respectively. Out of Rs.30/-,(a) Rs.10/-may be retained in the College, (b) Rs.20/- to remitted to the University to Joint Account No.
54007592645 at S.B.M., University Campus Branch,Mysore-5.

6. Fee fixed by various statutory bodies: a) Students Welfare Fund, b) Teachers Benefit Fund, c) N.S.S. The amount so collected shall be remitted
to the concerned head of account as indicated earlier, in the respective financial year.

7. Under Scheme A SC/ST/Cat.I students Whose Parent's annual Income is Rs.2.50 Lakh, below and other category including GM, IIA, IIIA & IIIB
whose annual Income is Rs. 1,00,000/- and below (Mysore University and other University Students within Karnataka) are exempted from Payment
of Tuition, Sports, Library, Laboratory and other fee (if applicable) fixed for the Course admitted.Further, for any reasons if the students fail to
receive the benefit from the Social Welfare department / Govt. of Karnataka / Govt. of India, that such students shall have to remit the
prescribed fee in full. And also that the concerned authorities has to be careful while forwarding the prescribed applications of the
candidates whose parents annual income is above Rs.2.5 lakhs and instruct such candidates to pay full fee on-par with general students
without fail.

8. The Candidate who seeks seats under Scheme-B may also apply for Scholarship if eligible, further the concerned shall watch whether the
amount which receives towards Scholarship is of full fee component or not. If, not such candidates shall be informed to pay the remaining
balance of fee to the concerned account. Under Scheme-B SC/ST students whose parents annual income is Rs. 2.50 Lakh and below have to
pay the administrative Fee applicable and 50% of the Tuition Fee for the Course. However, SC/ST students whose parents annual Income is above
Rs.2.50 Lakh, are given 2 installments for remitting the Tuition Fee. It shall be the responsibility of the concerned Principal to ensure that the further
installments of fee are being collected promptly. In all such cases entries should be made in a separate Register maintained for this purpose which
shall be produced at the time of Auditing.

9. Autonomous College shall submit the admission statement of candidates who enroll for the respective courses for University approval and get
approved by the University before issuing the admission ticket to the candidates for the First Semester every year.

10. Students outside Karnataka/Foreign Nationals have to obtain the Eligibility Certificate from the University of Mysore. The prescribed fee for
processing the applications for eligibility and the certificate fee shall have to be remitted to the University, as per the fee prescribed by the University.

11. Post-Graduate Courses: Any fee paid to college account will not be refunded.

12. The above recommended fees are applicable with effect from 01-4-2017 to 31-3-2018.
