Mario Kart: The Board Game

Set up:
Everyone selects a character piece.
Each player rolls an 8 sided die. Highest roll in the first space behind the starting line,
second highest behind the first, and so on. Reroll to break ties.
The player the furthest from the Starting line the goes first. Play continues clockwise
from that person.

Gameplay:
Movement: Flip the top card of the Movement deck. Move the number of spaces
indicated on the card. If you have any items that modify movement, make sure to account
for that and add any extra movement necessary.
Item Box: If a player passes through or lands on an item box space, he/she draws 1 card
from the Item deck only if her/she does not already have an item in hand.
o Players do not show this card until they decide to use it.
o Players can use an item at any point during their own turn. However, some items
can be used to block by simply discarding the relevant counter item. (Explained
in the item section).
Ramps: If you end your movement one of the arrow spaces, move to the next checkered
space for free.
o When passing over the arrow space, continue counting movement starting on the
next checkered space.
Win: Be the first player to complete 3 laps around the track.

Items:
Banana
Blocking: gives the user the ability to block a Green Shell or Red Shell.
o Immediately discard the Banana card when hit to block the hit.
Dropping: can be dropped on the space immediately behind the users current space on
the board.
o Place a Banana token on the board on space; more than one Banana token may
occupy any given space.
o Discard the Banana Item Card.
o Any player to move through a space with a Banana token rolls an 8 sided die.
4-8 avoid Banana, keep going.
1-3 hit Banana, end movement on that space and lose next turn.
If multiple Bananas on a space, roll for each one.
When a player hits a Banana, remove the token from the board.
If starting turn on a space with a Banana token, ignore it.
If you have a Red or Green Shell in hand, you may discard it when
moving through a banana space to remove 1 Banana token for free. Can
only do this before rolling for the Banana.

Mushroom
Immediately move forward 5 spaces (Can still hit Bananas).
Green Shell
Attacking: Gives the user ability to attack the player in front of them.
o To attack, roll an 8 sided die.
1-5 is a miss.
6-8 is a hit, player hit loses a turn.
Blocking: gives the user the ability to block a Green Shell or Red Shell.
o Immediately discard the Green Shell card when hit to block the hit.

Red Shell
Attacking: Automatically hits the player in front of you. Player hit loses a turn.
Blocking: gives the user the ability to block a Green Shell or Red Shell.
o Immediately discard the Red Shell card when hit to block the hit.

Blue Shell
Attacking: Automatically hits the player in first place. Player hit loses 2 turns.
o If multiple people are in tied for first place, all are hit and lose 2 turns.
o Blocked only by Star Power.
Only protects the user if there are multiple players being hit.
o If you are in first place and draw a Blue Shell card, you must discard it and then
draw a new Item card.
o Remove the 2 Blue Shell Item cards from the Item deck in a two player game.

Star Power
You are invincible until the end of your next turn.
Move and extra 5 spaces this turn and the next.
For each players you pass or land on, roll an 8 sided die.
o 6-8, that player loses a turn.
o 1-5, that player is unharmed.
Blocking: gives the user the ability to block any kind of shell.
o Discard Star Power card to block the hit and activating the Star Powers other
abilities.
o Any Bananas the player moves through are removed from the board and does not
stop their movement.

Banzai Bill (Bullet Bill)


Move forward 10 spaces.
Ignore all Bananas. Do not remove them from the board.
All players you pass, only from the movement of this Item card, lose a turn.
o This does not include any player(s) you end your movement on.
