Mini Olympics- In groups of 4, Students rotate
through 10 stations of Olympic events. Task cards
will be provided for each event and the activities
will be demonstrated prior.
Activities include: Sock wrestling, Aussie thong toss
and emu egg race.

Media Speech- You have just won an event!! In
pairs, Students will decide who will assume the
role of the Athlete and who will be the Reporter.
Students will write a script to follow throughout a
thankyou interview which would be given to the
media. Use of costumes and props is encouraged.
Present speech to class in chosen format: in
person, filmed on IPad etc.[ENG]
Traditional Dance- Observe and discuss the
expressive nature of Traditional Aboriginal Dance.

Olympic Charades- Using the flash cards provided,
students are to mime the noted Olympic events to
the class or a small group. Peers are to raise their
hand and guess the correct sport/event. Student
mime to rotate after 2 attempts each.

Visual-Spatial
Mascot Design Competition- You are entering a
competition to design the next mascot for the
Olympic game! Using prior knowledge of the
traditions and symbols of our nation, Students
are to design and create their own 3D Australian
Mascot. Students will name their Mascot and
display it in the Olympic display. [ENGLISH/D+T,
ARTS]
Where in the world- Cut out the flags of
countries represented at the Olympics. Using
prior knowledge, paste each flag into the
appropriate Olympic ring for that region. Colour
in the flags using correct colours. [HASS].
Commemorative stamp- Students are to design
a stamp to commemorate the Olympic games.
Incorporate symbols, traditions, and animals of
the host country. [HASS,ARTS,ENG]
Create a classroom Olympic display- In pairs,
Students choose a country or sport to research.
Decipher any relevant information of Country or
Sport. Display information and images in a
desired format (ie. Poster, word wall, brain
storm, drawings) Display around the classroom.

Musical
Create a new National Anthem- Listen to,
and examine the words in our National
Anthem. As a class, discuss words that
characterise Australia in a modern
context. Students are to use these words,
and come up with their own, to help re-
write the National Anthem for a
contemporary context. Select a potential
backing track of music and present to the

Compare and contrast anthems-
Compare and contrast Australias
National Anthem with that of the host
country. As a class identify similarities
and differences. Describe the music of
both and how it makes students feel. Can
they identify any underlying meaning?

Classroom song- Listen to the Olympic
song. Discuss the intent and underlying
message. Brainstorm ideas collectively, to
create a song for the class. Following, in
pairs or small groups, students are to
create their own Olympic song that could
be used as a classroom song and
encapsulates the ideals and values of the

Acrostic Olympic poem- Students are to
write an acrostic poem using the word
Olympics. In writing, students should
describe what they would see, hear, and
feel during the opening ceremony of the
Olympics. Display in class as a part of the

Interpersonal
Olympic quiz- In pairs, students are to
research a member of the Australian
Olympic team or a country participating
at the Olympics. Prepare a quiz using the
app, ProProfs Quiz maker. The quiz
must include a minimum of 10 questions.
Once students have published their quiz,
the link is to be shared on the class
Padlet to be accessed by the class.

Video of Support- Plan and prepare a
video of support for the Australian
Olympic team. Provide words of
encouragement to wish our Australian
Athletes good luck at the games. Film
using the IPad. Share and evaluate
amongst peers. [ENG,ICT]
Chatting to a Champion- As a class,
discuss appropriate forms of conversation
utilised within an interview. Formulate a
list of questions that one would ask to an
Olympian. Plan, prepare and conduct an
interview. Use props and costumes
related to chosen Olympian. Film with
IPAD. [ENG]
Torch relay- Quiz students on their
knowledge of past and present Olympics.
Using the around the world format,
instruct students to form a circle, with
one Student standing behind a student of
their choice. The Quiz master will select a
card form a pack of questions. The
student who responds the fastest/with
the correct answer, moves on to
challenge the next Student. If a sitting
student has a faster/more accurate
response, the students switch places.

 Intrapersonal
Journal- You are a competitor at the
Olympics! Students decide whether they
have won or lost their event, and are to
write a journal entry describing their
experience. Students are to provide a brief
recount of the goings on and account for the
atmosphere, whilst also considering the
thoughts and feelings experienced. [ENG]
Athlete Instagram profile- Students select
an Athlete of their choice to research.
Following, students will use basic facts to
assume the role of said Athlete and create
an Instagram post from their perspective.
Draw a picture to accompany the post and
include relevant hashtags. [ENG]
Event Recount-Examine the events reported
on in the newspaper over the last 2-3 days.
Students are to select one event and write
their own recount, as if they were present at
that specific event. Students should draw a
picture to accompany the article.

My Countrys flag- Students are to choose a
Country represented at the Olympics.
Research relevant information including: flag
colours and representation, location,
currency, language, population, and any
interesting facts. Draw/colour in the flag.
Include relevant information on the back of
the flag. Flags will be hung around the

Linguistic
Letter writing- Students are to write a letter to an
Olympian of their choice. Students are to include
questions that they would ask the Olympian and
inquire about things they may want to know more
about. Consider: how often they train, their road to
becoming an Olympian and individual future
ambitions. [ENG]
History of Olympics-
Create a Venn diagram outlining the similarities and
differences between the ancient and modern
Olympics. Consider the changes of events, venues,
medals, and uniforms. [HASS/ENG/MATHS]
Persuasive speech- Recall knowledge and
understanding of how to write a Persuasive text.
Write and present a persuasive text outlining the
reasons for, or against, why Australia should be
selected to host the next Olympic games [HASS,
ENG].

Crossword- Students are to create an online
crossword using words that characterise the
Olympics. Students will use Puzzle Maker, to
produce the crossword. Appropriate clues are to

Survey- Conduct a survey of students within
the class to find out each persons favourite
Olympic event. Present findings in a graph.
As a class, discuss findings and identify any

Timeline- Create a timeline of the highest
medal counts over the past 100 years.
Identify any Country that has achieved the
highest medal count more than once; which
country occurs most frequently? Is Australia
present on the timeline? If not, what has
been Australias highest medal tally?

Briefly revise knowledge of fractions and
number lines. Complete the Gymnastic word
problems with the aid of a number line.
Upon completion, students are encouraged

Running down the number line-
Decimal to fraction activity. Using the
running times from the classes 100 sprint
race, students are to convert each runners
time into a fraction. Students are to order
from largest to smallest. [MATHS]
Naturalistic
Host country resources- Research the host
country and identify its natural resources.
Create a mind map, using Mind Meister to
display findings. Upload to Padlet for the
class to access. Are there any similarities
with Australias resources, and those of the
host country? [HASS,ENG]
Pros and cons- As a class, students are to
consider the pros and cons of hosting the
Olympic games in our city. Discuss the
implications on the environment and society.
Are there any benefits? What could prevent
it being held in our city? [HASS, ENG,
SCIENCE]
Native animals- Students are to be divided
into groups and allocated a Country to
explore its native animals. Consider the
animals habitat, life span and food. Can
students identify a similar animal in
Australia? Relay information to the class in a
chosen format- poster, story, drawings,
poem, mind map etc. [HASS,ENG,SCIENCE]
Laurel Crown- Students are to forage in the
gardens within the School grounds and
collect materials to create an ancient Greek
Laurel Crown. Glue, scissors and paper
plates will be provided to further aid
construction. Students are to provide verbal
reasoning for why they chose their materials.
