Multicultural lesson plan

Standard Math subtracting

Objectives 1. Students will be able to calculate simple subtraction problems like 5-1= or 7-4=.
2. Students will be able to give the answer to any subtraction question asked of
them.
3. Students will be able to use any object like blocks, pencils and paper,
or beads, to help them figure out the problems.

Multicultural Objective Students will be able to solve any one digit subtraction math
problems and some two digit ones too.

Learning Styles Logical Mathematical Intelligence For this Intelligence you can help them
answer the question of what does 6-3=? Help them to answer the
question as to why it is 3 and not something else. Help them to
answer the question of how they got that answer/ how that could
be the answer.
Musical Intelligence For this Intelligence you can sing the lesson like 1-1=0
2-1=1, 3-1=2, etc

Materials/Equipment Math books, blocks or other toys, pencils and paper so the kids can
write down the problems as you write them on the board, A quiz with 10
subtraction problems on it.

Teacher Procedures Your teacher has told me you guys have been learning how to add
numbers today we are going to learn how to subtract numbers. Write
the problems on the board. Talk through them while the kids either look
at the math books or play with the blocks to learn how to solve the math
problems. Always ask the students for the answers to the problems. After
talking through the problems using the blocks and math books to try and
teach the subject have the kids go on to abcmouse.com for about 5 to 10
minutes and see works best for each kid.

Student Activities Teacher Can anyone tell me what 5-2 equals?

Student 3.
Teacher Lets use our blocks now if Steve had 9 blocks
and then he gave 4 of them to Stephanie how many
blocks does he have now. ( do the activity with the kids).
Students 5.

Closure For the closure ask the students what did we learn today. Then ask a few students and
they might answer with something along the lines of we learned how to subtract
numbers and how to use blocks and other objects to help use figure out the answers
to the problems.

Assessment One of the ways to assess the learning of the students is to hand out the 10
subtraction problems on it. I think this is a good way to show what the
students have learned. After grading the quizzes make note so later we can
work on subtraction problems again later in the school year, and help those
that still dont understand. Or take the chart off my desk that has all their names,
and just ask each kid a subtraction question and if the kid give you the right
answer put a check mark by their name, If they give you the wrong answer
put and X by their name.

Bibliography I used this website to help me figure out my answer for logical-Mathematical
Intelligence. http://www.parentree.in/Parentree-editors/journal-841/Teaching-
children-through-logical-mathematical-intelligence--multiple-intelligence----Activities--Toys--
Materials--Examples.html.
I know my answer for logical-Mathematical Intelligence may not be right
but I did the best that I could for this assignment I really do not understand
the learning styles part.
