LESSON PLAN ON PROBABILITY OF COMPOUND EVENTS

Content Standard:
Performance Standard:

I. OBJECTIVE:
At the end of the lesson, at least 75% of the class should be able:
1.) Differentiate Independent from Dependent Events
SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Independent and Dependent Events
Reference: Mathematics 10 Learners Materials p. 341-342
Mathematics 10 Teachers Guide p. 336- 339
Materials: Visual Aids, etc.
Strategy:
PROCEDURES:

-Preliminaries Activities
1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance
3. Checking of assignment

-4As Approach
1. Activity
- The teacher will let the students recall the formula for union and Intrsection of
Events

P(E)=

P(E)=

2. Analysis

- The teacher will then pose a question.

Question: ?
3. Abstraction
- The teacher will present the concept of independent and dependent events.

Two events are independent if the occurrence of one of the events gives us no
information about whether or not the other event will occur; that is, the events
have no influence on each other.
P(A and B) = P(A) P(B)
When the outcome of one event affects the outcome of another event, they are
dependent events.

4. Apllication

Example: (independent)

When a conin is tossed and a die is rolled, the event that a coin shows up head
and the event that a die shows up a 5 are independent events.

Example 2: (dependent)

A box contains 7 white marbles and 7 red marbles. What is the probability of
drawing 2 white marbles and 1 red marble in succession without replacement?

On the first draw, the probability of getting a white marble is 7/14. On the second draw,
the probability of getting a white marble is 6/13. Then on the third draw, the probability of
getting a red marble is 7/12. So,

P(1 hite, 1 white, 1 red)= 7/14 *6/13* 7/12= 7/52

1 Math is attempted but work does not support the answer.

- the teacher will let the students to choose their partner.

- The teacher will facilitate.
