Topic Selected: What does research say about advantages and disadvantages of
distance education?

1. LITERATURE REVIEW:
What does the literature/research say about this issue/topic? By using NAU
Library or Online Search engines, conduct a literature review.
You need to include 5 different sources (book, journal article, web article
etc.) in your review. Try to use current sources as much as possible.
You need to summarize and synthesize your sources by discussing a
common theme or issue.
You don't need to critique your sources
You don't need to evaluate your sources (if the sources are trustworthy,
weather the author has a bias or not)
You need to provide background information such as history and
definitions

Brief Literature Review: Based on my research on distance education and


e-learning, it is stated that one of the problems of distance learning has
been one of making sense of the huge and growing, the body of available
research. Distance education, eLearning is practice-based, and apparently
provides for an improvement in Access to education for those who unless
don't have any other opportunities due to work, family or physical
conditions. Not surprisingly, some of the authors found that the greater the
way of communication and instructor-student interaction, the greater the
effect on student satisfaction. The authors examined literature from four
journals. According to sources given below, the study had to involve both
a classroom and a DE condition and had to have both an achievement,
attitude and retention measure (p. 179). A key point the authors make is
that online education forces instructors to be more specific about their
intentions and pedagogical goals and practices. The study of the online
class is crucial to its success, and efficiency and organization are highly
valued. One of the things authors examined was that the comparative
literature regarding the variety of conditions of the studies features and
outcomes that were publicly available.

What is your personal opinion on this issue? Do you agree with the
research? If you agree or disagree, please explain why?
Provide examples/experiences regarding this issue from school
perspective or If you are not working in a school, from your profession. Be
specific with your examples. You can mention software/hardware names,
specific methods that you plan to use, etc.
How would you implement this research in your career? (At least 1
paragraph)

Reflection: My opinion on this issue is that distance education is the best option
for those who unless don't have any other opportunities due to work, family or
physical limits. Distance learning may be hard for those who is not responsible
and self-controlled, so student cogitates on their decision of having distance
education. Once I had a friend named Pelin who is a distance learner; she had
waited for the last day to start doing her homework, and she had got stressed
because of limited time. My friend, Pelin, did take this online class because she
wanted to make her GPA higher while she was in her country. Unfortunately, it did
not work, and she regretted that she took this class.
I would provide more practices, videos that students can watch to learn the
subjects. Instead of collecting my assignments at one time, I would distribute the
assignments among many days to make it easier and more permanent for
students. So that my students would do the same amount of assignments but they
would have more due dates.
