Shakespeare: Stay At School or Off He Goes

William Shakespeare once quoted, Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind.

Shakespeare is a well known writer in the world of literature, the stories that many know include

Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, etc. Shakespeare also wrote his sonnets and plays in

Elizabethan Age. Unfortunately Shakespeare passed away on his birthday April 23,1616

.Shakespeare makes a huge impact in one's life therefore he should be taught in schools because

he has been in the English curriculum, many can relate to his stories, and his insights are still

relevant.

First of all, with Shakespeare's writing we are able to learn many lessons by having him

in the English curriculum. In the article Matthew Truesdale wrote, Teacher: Why it is ridiculous

not to teach Shakespeare in school on page 1 it states, Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet

have been staples of any high school English curriculum for years upon years. Truesdale used

ethos to make the reader have trust in him that in any high school Shakespeare is the English

curriculum by using figurative language the way he used the figurative language he meant that

Shakespeare has brought and completed the high school english curriculum because staples are

usually used to put things together. Since he wrote in Elizabethan many students dont

understand so by learning about shakespeare it will help the students gain knowledge of

Elizabethan age, and in the article it says ...for years upon years. it also means that
Shakespeare has been in the teaching system for a long time meaning that many students enjoy

him since

they never stopped learning about him. Shakespeare is taught in most schools which causes

teenagers to feel, and be able to relate to his writing pieces.

Even though Shakespeares writing may be old a plethora of people, especially teens,

relate to his sonnets. As Truesdale says in the same article on page 2 , Shakespeare is more

than just a long dead British guy... he has much to teach us about the modern human

condition general Orthello, who has lived a life full of valor and who has had experiences far

beyond and far greater, still falls victim to lagos head games for no reason then that he is

different, an other, and cant quite forget that, no matter his accomplishments, we empathize

precisely because weve been there. Truesdale wrote this pathos to grab the reader's feelings by

saying how we can relate that we are different, and since a huge amount of people have

insecurities that do not develop through accomplishments or failure but how people see us in

society. Shakespeares stories are still relatable to many people because they still get insecurities

due to how the world sees them.People can empathize to many of Shakespeares characters

because there is a variety of people that have been through the same situation as general

Orthello, to be judged by a variety of people. Shakespeare once said, Time is very slow for

those who wait. Very fast for those who are scared. Very long for those who lament. Very short

for those who celebrate. But those who love, time is eternal. By being able to relate to

Shakespeares stories strongly, his insights are still relevant to our society.
Even if time goes on Shakespeare still meets the standards of time now, even if he is 450

years old. Truesdale states in the article on page 1, To dismiss Shakespeare on the grounds that

life 450 years ago has no relation to life today is to dismiss every religious text, every piece of

ancient mythology (Greek, African, Native American, etc.), and for that matter, everything

wasnt written in whatever time

defined NOW. Even though Shakespeare is old it does not mean he should be thrown away.

Shakespeare once said, Though I look old, yet I am strong and lusty. Shakespeare was trying

to say that even though he is old he is very strong and healthy he meant this to the world of

literature because Shakespeare is still considered to be a strong writer. Truesdale used ethos to

make the reader notice that throwing away Shakespeare is the same as throwing beliefs and

history of cultures. If people just throw away things how would people learn from mistakes, how

would people learn the past? The answer is that there would not be a solution or advice available.

Shakespeare should not be thrown away, he is still in the English curriculum, and we are able to

relate to his stories because his insights are still relevant.

Many however argue that shakespeare should not be taught in school because books and

writers should be diverse. In the article written by Dana Dusbiber, Why I Dont want to assign

Shakespeare anymore (even though hes in the Common Core) states, ... there is a WORLD of

really exciting literature out there that better speaks to the needs of my very ethnically-diverse

and wonderfully curious modern-day students. Dusbibers opinion is that she believes that

Shakespeare is not diverse enough for her students. Even though many agree that Shakespeare

should not be taught, they just do not see that Shakespeare has many lessons and valuable things
to show students. His stories all have different themes and have a plethora of round characters

which shows diversity because having round characters is to have different types of characters

and not same old plain ones. Shakespeare shows that he is a huge part of the English curriculum

by being able to understand his stories as well as being able to relate to them, by being able to

relate to the stories of Shakespeare shows that his insights are still pertinent to society now. The

argument between to leave shakespeare in schools or to take him out still goes on. As

shakespeare once said, Love me or hate me, both are in my favor...if you love me, ill always be

in your heart if you hate me, ill always be on your mind.
