1. In designing the process plant of a high CO2 Natural gas, it is desired to estimate
the viscosity of the NG at 40oC and 77 bar at two different compositions shown in
Table 1. Use the principle of corresponding states and estimate the viscosities of
the NG at the two different compositions.

2. A Newtonian fluid is flowing at a velocity vz= f(y) where vy = vz = 0. Derive simplified
equations for the combined momentum fluxes as functions of pressure, velocity, and
viscosity.
[3 marks]
3. Verify that momentum flux has the same unit as pressure while rate of momentum
has the unit of force.

4. Oil (SAE 20W-50) at 20o c is flowing down a vertical wall at steady state. The mass
flow rate of the oil is 30 kg/min. The kinematic viscosity of the oil at 20 o C is
1.66 10-4 m2/s and the density is 872 kg/m3. The pressure at the top and bottom of
the wall can be assumed to be equal. Derive the relevant equations using the shell
momentum balance method and determine
a. the velocity and viscous stress distributions and sketch the profiles.
b. the film thickness
c. the average velocity of water.
d. Show that the assumption you made is acceptable

5. A Newtonian fluid is flowing down an inclined tube as shown in FIGURE Q5 in a
laminar flow. The inner diameter and length of the tube are D and L, respectively.
The dynamic viscosity and density of the fluid are and , respectively.
