Forbidden Love

Someone once stated, I love him so very much, and he loves me. But we have to keep

our love a secret from the world. I dont know what to do, its breaking my heart. In the play

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare,and in the myth Pyramus and Thisbe by Ovid the

author shows the readers how two people fall in love, but can because their familys hated each

other. The aspect of love in this literature is that is love is not only about about happiness, but

also pain, and there is also conflict.

Happiness is one of the aspects of love in this literature. This makes literature more

interesting because the characters are happy, the readers feel the same way. In this point of the

play Romeo is talking to Juliet in Friar Laurances cell; Romeo states, Ah Juliet, if the measure

of thy joy Be heaped like mine, and that thy skill be more To blazon it, then sweeten with thy

breath This neighbor air, and let rich musics tongue Unfold the imaged happiness that both

Recieve in either by this dear encounter.(II.\/I.24-29)This explains how Romeo wants to Juliet

to be happy to be with him him and know her happiness they imagine in their marriage. This is

important because if Juliet is happy, so is Romeo.Furthermore, in Pyramus and Thisbe the text

states, For there the least of whispers was kept safe: it crossed that cleft with words of

tenderness.(Ovid 1)This quote describes how the words were very gentle and kind. This shows

how even though they are separated from each other, they used a crack in the wall to be able to

speak to each other. Readers can come to the conclusion the when characters are in love, they

share happiness.

Pain is another aspect of love that makes literature interesting because it's worth going

through pain for someone you love. In This point of the play, Juliet finds Romeo dead; Juliet
states,This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die. (\/.iii.170)This explains how Juliet kills

herself because she was willing to go through pain for Romeo. This is important because she

would do anything to be with him. In addition, Pyramus and Thisbe the text states, Why struck

you Pyramus? Why have I lost my love? Its is you Thisbe-I-who call your name! Respond! Lift

up your fallen head!.(Ovid 2) This evidence illustrates show she is suffering because she finds

Pyramus dead. This shows even though their love is forbidden, she killed herself to finally be

with him. In the real world, people emotionally go through pain, not physically.

Love in this literature is not only about happiness and pain, but also creates conflict.

Conflict makes literature interesting because problems come when there is fighting and the

drama because it makes a good story. Tybalt is talking to Lord Capulet, Tybalt states,Uncle,

this is a Montague, our foe; A villain that is hither come in spite To scorn at our solemnity this

night.(I.\/.59-61) This explains how Tybalt noticed Romeo and thinks he's going to cause a

problem. This shows how the capulets dislike that a Montague is in their property. On a similar

quote, in Pyramus and Thisbe it states, Theirs did-indeed they wanted to be wed, but marriage

was forbidden by their parents.(Ovid 1)This explains the problem of not being able to get

married because of their parents. This shows that even though they are deeply in love,their only

conflict is that their parents dont get along. In reality, there will always be conflicts in between

relationships when it comes to love.

Although love is about going through pain and showing happiness, it also has conflict.

Love is not the reason why literature interesting, it's the happiness, pain and the conflict that

brings the reader's attention. The themes that were shown across the readings was forbidden

love by the fact of two people who can't be together because society deemed their relationship

unnatural.Thus theme makes literature more interesting and entertaining to read because of all

the drama and conflicts that happen in a relationship and how he characters manage to solve it.

In the real world people might not kill themselves for the person they love, but they would do
anything to be with their loved one, and sometimes feel a lot of pain, but it's all worth it in the

end.
