Lesson Plan # 21
Lab 2
Mixing Colors

Date: June 19, 2017

Supervisor: Ariane
Lead Teacher: Laura Ray
Lesson Plan #3

Children and Learning/Development Goals:

1. Harper enjoys colors, as observed at art centers and science centers. She will practice
her goal of one to one correspondence by sorting colors by seeing that the red
fruit/paper goes to the same colored bowl/bottle.
2. Cooper will practice his goal of staying at one activity by playing in the block area
with the trains, which is one of his interests, with other peers.
3. Riley will practice his goal of identifying letters as he builds a necklace or bracelet with
letter beads at the literacy center and have a teacher guide her to letters as he goes.
4. Eva often enjoys the art center, as many other children do. There she will practice her
goal of socializing by talking to peers and taking turns with them in the small area at the
art center by painting the barrel and have a teacher there to model turn taking.
5. Kyler will practice counting at the math center by counting the colors, fruit, and
amount of each color there are and have a teacher there to help with one-to-one
correspondence.
6. Bernice often enjoys the sensory table, as many other children do. There she will
practice her goal of sharing by sharing cars with other peers at the sensory table since
the number of cars are limited.

Preassessment and Findings:

The proposed topic is mixing colors. I know the children are interested in this topic because
Harper, Annie, Kyler, Cooper, Zadok, Hollie, and Eva all have painted and used multiple colors
and mixed them together. Makayla was able to tell me the colors pink, blue, purple, red, and
yellow. Chase was able to tell me blue, green, white, and red. When asked do we mix colors
to make other colors, Cooper said no, Eva said yes, and Annie said I dont know. Harper
was asked what colors mixed together make the color orange. She said I dont know. Chase
was asked what colors mixed together make the color orange. He said white and orange.
Jackson was asked what color is made by mixing blue and yellow. He said orange. None of
the children were able to correctly tell me what colors make another color. The ideas to be
emphasized we will focus on to help fill the gaps of knowledge are there are 3 primary colors,
red, yellow, and blue, and by mixing any two of the primary colors you make other colors. The
children will be able to explore mixing colors with colored water, paint, colored shaving cream,
and colored light in order to fill their gaps of knowledge.

Ideas to be Emphasized:

1. There are 3 primary colors red, yellow, and blue.

2. By mixing any two of the primary colors you make other colors.
3. The color wheel shows us how colors are related.

Preschool Concepts or Skills:

1
1. One-to-one correspondence
2. Mixing Colors
3. Classifying

Assignments for set up and throughout the day:

Ari- Dramatic Play, Science

Rachel- Manipulatives, Snack
Karissa- Outdoor, Math, Alternative Activities
Lexie- Books and stuffed animals for the Reading rea, Blocks
Laura- Opening Circle, Gathering Time, Closing Circle

are related. Lets make our own color wheel to see how the
colors are related. First we have our wheel. Then
we add our primary colors. What are the primary
colors? Place them on the wheel. Now what
color does yellow and blue make? Place the
green in between the yellow and blue. What
color does yellow and red make? Place the
orange in between the yellow and red. What
color does blue and red make? Place the purple
in between the blue and red. Now we can see
how the colors are related.
