SUCKER ROD PUMPS

Subsurface Rod Pumps

Trico subsurface rod pumps are available in every API size and
type and in all materials and finishes, standard and special. As
every experienced operator knows, each oil well has its own dis-
tinct personality and requires a particular type of pump assem-
bly. Trico servicemen have the expertisefrom years of
experienceto know which configuration will do the best job.
Their ability to match pump and well for peak production equals
the enviable reputation of the rugged hardware they sell and
service. So no matter what youre dealing with in the way of cor-
rosion, abrasion, gas, etc., your Trico representative will not only
tell you how to handle it, hell deliver the goods to get the job
done fast. Trico service shops offer:
24-hour-a-day service, every day of the year.
Large local inventories.
Pumps for all standard tubing and casing sizes.
Barrels and plungers for all types of well conditions.

Bottom Hold-Down Stationary Barrel

Insert Pumps: RWB, RHB, RSB
This pump configuration is the most rugged and popular con-
figuration for an insert pump. The location of the hold-down seal
assembly gives this pump an advantage since the pressure on
the outside of the barrel tube balances damaging pressures in-
side the barrel tube during pumping. Bottom hold-down pumps
in the heavy wall configuration can be run to extreme depths.
Top Hold-Down Insert Pumps: RWA, RHA,
RSA
The advantage to this pump configuration is that the fluid dis-
charge point is only inches away from the top of the hold-down,
so there is normally not a problem with sanding in the pump in
the tubing, and never a problem with stagnant fluid collecting
between the pump discharge point and the hold-down. This
pump also has more fluid submergence than any other pump
design.
Traveling Barrel Insert Pumps: RWT, RHT,
RST
This pump is used in particulate laden pumping conditions. The
bottom end of the moving barrel keeps particulates in suspen-
sion in the fluid between the pump barrel and tubing inside di-
ameter. And, when the pump is shut down, as when on a time
clock, the traveling valve closes and prevents sand and other
particulates from falling back into the pump.
Tubing Pumps: TH, TS
The tubing pump is a rugged, high volume pump which allows
the operator to produce the maximum amount of fluid from any
given size of tubing. For instance, the maximum plunger size for THM PUMP

an insert pump installed inside 2-3/8" tubing is 1-1/2". If a tubing

pump is installed the plunger size can be increased to 1-3/4" re-
sulting in a 36% increase in pump capacity.
Tubing pumps are available in sizes from 1-3/4" to 4-3/4" in API
and Slim-Hole configurations.

Subsurface Pump Barrels

Advances in metallurgy and manufacturing give you...
Barrels with longer life in every well condition.
Trico subsurface pump barrels lead the field in the petroleum in-
dustry all over the world, for the best reason in the worldthey
do a better job. Superior control of material quality is half the
story. The other half is superior control of straightness and fin-
ish. So whatever problems your well presents, you can be sure
that a Trico barrel will deliver the capabilities it promisesgiving
longer service itself, and promoting durability of other parts of
the pump, too.
Full range of types available.
Whether your production is corrosive, abrasive, or both, theres
a Trico barrel to handle it. Trico makes them in five basic materi-
als: regular steel, carburized steel, chrome I.D. steel, brass, and
chrome I.D. brassplus special materials. They are all preci-
sion honed to a mirror finish, and Tricos chrome plating tech-
nique has set the industry standard. And Trico makes them in
every standard API configuration.

Tri-Carb Barrels
When severe abrasion and/or corrosion is experienced, Tri-
Carb barrels are recommended for longer life. Tri-Carb is a
chemically-applied silicon carbide and nickel coating, which is
extremely resistant to wear and corrosion. It is a particularly cost
effective method when hydrogen sulfide (H2S) or carbon dioxide
(CO2) is present.
Barrels coated with Tri-Carb provide these advantages:
Higher effective hardness.
Tri-Carb surface yields a Rockwell hardness of C72-C75.
Lowers coefficient of friction.
Extends barrel life.
Continuous and uniform layer of protection on inside and
outside surfaces, including threads.

Besides its extreme toughness, the Mo-Hard surface also has a
very low coefficient of friction against any kind of barrel. Barrels
last longer, and the pump runs smoother, easier and more effi-
ciently. Pins can be nickel plated against corrosion.

Monel Pins
Monel pins and super-hard finish Mo-Hard plungers give
extra long life in the most corrosive wells.
The plunger area most vulnerable to corrosion is the pin. With-
out protection, corrosive elements will quickly chew through the

threaded wall and destroy pump efficiency. COEFFICIENT
OF FRICTION
To help overcome this problem, Trico offers the Series 397
Plunger. Prior to final grind of the plunger, precision machined
Monel pins, with their inherent corrosion-resistant properties,

SUCKER ROD PUMPS

Pressure Actuated Plungers

Trico pressure actuated plungers are precision machined from
seamless tubing, are hard surfaced with a thermo-sprayed coat-
ing and ground to an exact fit. Wrench flats and API pins are
standard on each plunger.
These plungers incorporate nylon rings of split, one-piece con-
struction. The nylon offers excellent strength and flexibility, re-
sists corrosion and water, and performs well in sandy fluids.
Each ring is cupped on top, and when used on stationary barrel
pumps, hydrostatic pressure expands the ring on the upstroke
and relaxes on the downstroke.
Four plunger configurations are available10-ring, 20-ring, 40-
ring and 60-ring. Generally, the 10-ring plunger is recom-
mended to depths of 1500 feet, the 20-ring plunger to 4500 feet,
the 40-ring plunger to 6500 feet and the 60-ring plunger to 9600
feet.
Available sizes
The 20, 40 and 60-ring pressure actuated plungers are each
available in the following sizes: 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 1-5/8, 1-3/4, 2, 2-
1/8, 2-1/4 and 2-3/4 inches. The 10-ring plunger is available in 1-
1/2" size only.

Balls and Seats

PRESSURE ACTUATED PLUNGERS
More efficiency, longer service.
Trico balls and seats are machined to the highest standards in
the industry, so you get top performance out of your pump. And
Trico's materials meet or exceed all API requirements, so you
get extra long service without problems.

Pump Insert Guided Cages

The most effective answer to minimize wear of critical
pump cage, ball and seat. GASKET
The Trico Pump Insert Guided Cage is designed to provide
longer life for pump cages and balls and seats than any conven-
tional cage combination. Its self-centering cage insert assures a CAGE

straight drop for the ball. This reduces float-flutter ball action
and minimizes friction wear in the ball, seat and cage. Fluid pas-
sage has minimum restrictions. A special high-temperature-
resistant rubber gasket cushions the insert to soften impact.
The cage insert is cast of a special cobalt alloy which has excel-
lent corrosion and shock resistance. All sizes are designed to re-
ceive API balls. The cage shell is machined in a choice of SHELL
materialssteel for normal or sandy wells and stainless steel
for corrosive wells. Available in 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 1-3/4, 2, 2-1/4 and
2-3/4 inch sizes with a full range of top connections. Adaptable
for all combinations as shown above.

Holddowns
Cup-Type Holddown
The Trico Cup-Type Holddown seals and retains insert pumps
on the top or bottom with pressure actuated cups. It is the most
popular holddown style with standard cups made from nylon
and other materials available. Close component tolerances are
maintained to ensure compatibility with all API seating nipples.
Mechanical Holddown
The Trico Mechanical Holddown anchors and seals insert
pumps on top or bottom, or attaches to a tubing pump standing
valve as a mechanical holddown. Recommended for wells with
high bottomhole temperatures or wells requiring higher hold-
down forces than a cup-type holddown. API specifications are
rigidly held to ensure interchangeability with all API mechanical
lock seating nipples.

tionary barrel, bottom anchored RWB or RHB pump. By taking
approximately 20% of the produced fluid from the pumping
chamber and discharging it just above the pump holddown, the
bottom discharge valve: (1) eliminates sanding-in of the pump,
(2) increases net plunger stroke, (3) reduces compression in
the sucker rod string on the downstroke, thereby retarding
breaks, (4) eliminates stagnant corrosive fluids in the dead an-
nulus between the pump and tubing, (5) prevents external cor-
rosion damage to the pump barrel and internal corrosion
damage to lower portion of the production tubing, and (6) in-
creases the life of the traveling valve cage and the ball and seat.

Features
Made from steel or stainless steel to API specifications.
Fits all RHB and RWB pumps for 2-3/8 and 2-7/8 inch
tubing.

Clutched Top Seal for Bottom Lock
Pumps
The Clutched Top Seal was designed to seal off sand, scale, or
other undesirable residue which usually forms around the seat-
ing assembly of a bottom holddown stationary barrel pump. By
using the Clutched Top Seal, a rubber packer isolates the
space usually left open to receive sand and scale. The Clutch
allows the make-up or break-out of sucker rods.
The rubber element is bonded onto a steel ring to minimize ex-
trusion, to aid in releasing the rubber from the tubing wall, and to
prevent the fluid from washing it away when the tool is released.
Positive seal
The Clutched Top Seal provides a positive seal so that no
pressure can reach the outside of the pump. FIN TOP SEAL

Simple installation
The Clutched Top Seal is installed on any conventional bottom
holddown pump by inserting it between the top insert collar and
the rod guide cage. The tool sets by applying the weight of the
rods through the tool. To release, merely pick up the rod string
and the pump.

Top Spool Valve

The Trico Top Spool Valve for insert-type rod pumps reduces the
effect of two problems inherent with conventional rod pumps
fluid pound and gas locking.
The Top Spool Valve also prevents sand or other foreign matter
from settling past the rod guide and onto the top of the pump
plunger when the well is shut down on intermittent operation.
The Top Spool Valve can be run on either bottom holddown or
top holddown insert pumps. It is available in three pump sizes for
2-3/8 inch tubing with an 11/16 inch valve rod, and three pump
sizes for 2-7/8 inch tubing with a 7/8 inch valve rod.

Top Ring Valve

The Trico Top Ring Valve when added to the top of an other-
wise standard stationary barrel sucker rod pump greatly im-
proves the performance and life of the pump in gassy wells.
Operation
TOP SPOOL VALVE The Top Ring Valve converts the pump from a single to a two
chamber pump. The upper chamber the area between the
I.D. of the barrel and the O.D. of the rod contains approxi-
mately 25% less volume than the lower chamber, which in-
cludes the full diameter area between the traveling valve and
the standing valve. On the upstroke, this lower chamber area
fills with fluid and gas. On the downstroke, the fluid is displaced
and the gas compressed into the annular upper chamber.
Advantages
Minimizes fluid pound.
Improves pumping efficiency.
Reduces load range on sucker rods and pumping unit.
Is a soft acting valve.
Pump is top discharged.

API PONY RODS

Tricos Sucker Rod plant in Greenville, Texas, was constructed as a

state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for sucker rods, pony rods and
couplings. The plant turns out millions of feet of high quality sucker
rods every year.

API SUCKER RODS API Pony Rods

Trico API Pony Rods provide exceptional tensile strength and
load factors. All Trico Pony Rods are forged from the same allot
steels as sucker rods and are manufactured to appropriate API
classifications. Fully rolled, cold-formed threads assure a pre-
cise, smooth, reinforced thread structure not attainable by nor-
mal machine-cut threads.

Sucker Rod Couplings

Trico sucker rod, polished rod and sub-type couplings are avail-
able in all sizes. They are manufactured with fully rolled, cold-
formed threads. A low friction metal-sprayed version is available
which is highly resistant to abrasion and corrosion.

BASIC DOWNHOLE INSTALLATIONS Fixed InsertIn this system, the downhole pump is run in on a
small string of tubing inside of the production tubing. Input
power fluid goes down the small, inner string, and production
plus exhausted power fluid returns up the annulus between the
two strings. Free gas is produced through the tubing-casing an-
nulus.
Fixed CasingIn this system, the downhole pump is run in on
any size tubing and landed on a casing packer. Input power fluid
goes down this tubing string and production plus exhausted
power fluid returns up the annulus. All free gas must be pro-
duced through the pump.
Free ParallelIn this system, two strings of tubing, con-
nected at the bottom with a crossover block, are run independ-
ently or simultaneously, and a retrievable standing valve is
inserted. The Free Pump is circulated down the larger of the
two strings by power fluid and on landing makes a seating seal
on the standing valve and an upper seal in a special collar. Con-
tinued power fluid circulation starts and operates the pumps en-
gine. Production plus exhausted power fluid goesthrough the
fluid crossover block and returns up the smaller tubing string.
Free gas is produced through the casing-tubing annulus.
Free CasingIn this system, one string of tubing is run and
landed on a casing packer. The Free Pump is circulated down
this string and in operation the exhausted power fluid plus pro-
duction is produced up the casing annulus. All free gas must be
produced through the pump.
Closed Power Fluid System (CPF)
The closed power fluid (CPF) system provides a method of re-
turning the exhausted power fluid from the downhole pumps
engine through a separate channel to the surface. Thus it does
not mingle with the produced fluid. In effect, the hydraulic power
fluid is in a closed circuit. The same fluid is used over and over
with only the addition of a small amount of make-up fluid. The
make-up fluid replaces the fluid used to lubricate the pump end

of the downhole piston pump. The power fluid used may be se-
OPF CONFIGURATIONS lected from a wide variety of fluids available but most common is
clean produced crude oil or water. Because the power fluid in
the closed system does not mix with the production, the major
source of power fluid contamination is eliminated. Thus the CPF
system insures longer pump life by providing better quality
power fluid. In addition, the system simplifies well testing be-
cause the circulated power fluid does not need to be subtracted
from the return fluid to obtain net oil produced.

Kobe Type ALP Pump

The ALP Pump is an extension of the A Pump design, having in-
creased engine displacement by the addition of a second en-
gine piston and cylinder. This feature permits lifting production
volumes typical of the Type A Pump either from greater depths
or at lower power fluid pressure. Discharge pressures of water
flood injection systems have been found to be suitable as power
fluid for the Type ALP Pump.
These pumps are furnished in 2-1/2 and 3 inch tubing sizes, and
may be fitted with single or double pump ends. This pump may
be installed in a fixed insert (tubing conveyed) or Free Pump
installation with open or closed power fluid systems.

Oilmaster F- & V-Series and

Model 220 Pumps
The Oilmaster F- Series downhole pumps offer a longer stroke
length for low to mid-volume production. They will fit in the stan-
dard hydraulic bottom hole assembly (2" pump pitch length of
79"; 2-1/2" pump pitch length of 105") which allows interchange-
ability with other manufacturers.
The V and 220 Series pumps were designed for higher volumes
and deeper depths. They require bottom hole assemblies de-
signed to accept the higher volume. All V and 220 Series pumps
are single-acting pumps, with larger diameter seats and poppet
design valves made of high alloy metal to allow larger flow pas-
sages and deeper pumping depths.

COILED OR
From crude oil production to de-watering gas wells, the Trico 1- CONVENTIONAL
1/4" Jet Pump is as rugged and dependable as it is versatile. TUBING
This slim, compact downhole pump was designed exclusively to
be run in existing 2-3/8" or 2-7/8" tubing. No expensive tubing
workovers are required, as all the necessary tools are usually
run in on 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" coiled tubing. The pumps Bottom Hole
Assembly can also be run in on conventional 1-1/4" jointed pipe.
PUMP
The pump itself is actually a Free Pump, and circulates hydrau- CAVITY
lically through the coiled or conventional tubing.
The Trico 1-1/4" Jet Pump is ideal for offshore production use
when either the well has stopped flowing, as a replacement for
gas lift installations, for de-watering gas wells or as a new lift 1-1/4" JET
installation. On a platform, where space is always at a premium, "FREE" PUMP
the entire hydraulic package can be custom designed to fit
virtually any space requirement. In multiple well installations,
two or three wells may be able to operate from one Triplex or
Multiplex pump, further eliminating space problems. In a de-
watering situation, the pump can be set permanently while
using a rental Triplex or Multiplex when necessary, thus
reducing capital and operating expenses.
All Trico hydraulic Free Pumps are circulated in, operated, and
circulated out hydraulically, without the need for a wireline or WELL CASING
workover rig. This feature allows the operator to remove the (OPEN FOR

pump from the well at any time for inspection or re-sizing just by
redirecting the flow of fluid in a reverse pumping manner. The
Trico 1-1/4" CT Jet Pump can be circulated in and out of 1-1/4"
coiled tubing without flashing removed.

DUAL VESSEL UNIDRAULIC
The Trico UNIDRAULIC Dual Vessel Power Fluid Cleaning
Unit consists of a complete power fluid cleaning system pack-
aged on a single skid for maximum convenience in transporting
and installing. All equipment and controls are fully connected,
ready for operation.
Cleaning System
The dual vessel cleaning system employs a vertical accumula-
tor vessel to supply fluid under pressure to the hydrocyclone
where solids are removed.
The cleaned power fluid is stored in a horizontal reservoir ves-
sel, also under pressure, to supply suction fluid to the plunger
pump.
Both vessels are ASME Coded and are internally coated with 18
mils of epoxy phenolic for corrosion protection. Each has an el-
liptical manway, sight glasses with automatic gage cocks and
pre-set relief valves.
All primary control valves and piping are flanged and of welded
construction.

Production Test Units

Trico's portable Production Test Unit is a field-proven package
for testing and evaluating the production levels for a specific
well. By acquiring as much accurate data as possible from the
tests, a determination can be made by Trico field personnel as to
the best type of artificial lift system for that well.
These trailer-mounted units are easily transported from one
wellsite to another, and are completely self-contained with all
necessary piping, valving and wellhead fittings. Trico Test Units
set up and tear down easily and require minimal operator atten-
tion.
Because climatic conditions vary around the world, Trico can
and has built Test Units to operate in the harsh environment of
Alaska's North Slope and the extreme heat conditions of the
Middle East.
Units are typically located throughout major oil producing areas
of the United States and are available on a rental basis. Contact
a Trico representative for information regarding availability in
your area.

Methanol Injection Service

Deepwater offshore platforms with icing conditions in the pro-
duced gas have found the Kobe Triplex an ideal problem solver
in these applications. Methanol injected into the flowline at the
subsea wellhead at intermittent high pressure will solve the ic-
ing problem, but very few pumps can handle the fluid. A six
month operating test established the Kobe Triplex as a recipro-
cating pump capable of handling the characteristics of methanol
in a compact, cost efficient unit.

Constant Flow Controller

The Constant Flow Controller is a high-pressure, hydraulic sys- CONSTANT FLOW CONTROLLER

tem control valve that maintains a constant, preselected rate of

flow despite upstream and downstream pressure changes.
Flow rates are quickly and easily selected with a handwheel
graduated in barrels per day.
The Constant Flow Controller is designed for operating pres-
sures up to 5,000 psi, for continuous service year-in and year-
out, and installation in any position. It is adaptable to crude oil,
treated water, sea water, oil field brines, or fluids of other vis-
cosities.
Available in three sizes for maximum flow rates of 800, 1600 and
3200 BPD.

Pressure Controller
PRESSURE CONTROLLER
The Trico/Kobe Pressure Controller is a high-pressure, hydrau-
lic system control valve designed for maintaining a constant,
preselected upstream pressure regardless of changes in vol-
ume. It responds quickly to changing volume requirements and
has controlled dampening to prevent hunting and snap clos-
ing. The Pressure Controller can be used for a wide variety of
liquids crude oil, treated water, sea water and oil field brines.
Trico/Kobe Pressure Controllers maintain back pressures up to
5,000 psi. A scale graduated in psi allows quick and easy selec-
tion of pressure. Units are available in complete manifold
systems or as stand-alone units with welding flanges or
threaded flanges.

Oilmaster Constant Flow Controller CONSTANT FLOW

CONTROLLER
The Oilmaster 280-390 Constant Flow Control Valve is widely
used as a control valve for subsurface hydraulic pumping sys-
tems. It delivers power fluideither oil or water, up to 5,000
PSIG at the pre-selected constant rate regardless of variations
in inlet or discharge pressures. It serves to stabilize operation of
the downhole hydraulic pump.
The flange connections on this valve make it adaptable to in-
line applications or for multi-well manifolds. This valve is rated
to 2400 BPD. The 280-391 valve is rated to 1000 BPD.

Oilmaster Wellhead Control

The Oilmaster wellhead control is a convenient lever-operated
WELLHEAD CONTROL VALVE
accessory incorporating a 4-way valve and catcher device.
Mounted on the wellhead, the control valve permits easy pump
in, pump out and retrieval operations where hydraulic free type
pumps are installed downhole. Included is a built-in power fluid
bypass during pump out operations to insure safety relief on the
casing side. the Oilmaster wellhead control can be configured to
varied casing free or parallel free applications.

Oilmaster 280-399 Pressure

PRESSURE
CONTROLLER Controller
The Oilmaster 280-399 Pressure Controller is designed to con-
trol the operating pressure of a UNIDRAULIC system or small
central manifold. Flow through connections are nominal 2 inch
schedule 160 piping. Low pressure bypass fluid flows through a
1 inch NPT thread in the block. The throttling elements are a
tungsten carbide ball in a tapered tungsten carbide seat. The
controller is designed to operate at pressures up to 5,000 PSI.

Oilmaster Line Screen

Oilmaster line screens are offered in a two inch nominal size
and have brass strainers which traps solids at the surface as
small as .020 inches in size. The screen flow passage area is
4.59 square inches on 35 inches of length, which allows for con-
siderable amounts of debris to accumulate before service is re-
quired. The screen is easily removed for cleaning and service.
LINE SCREEN
The O-ring seals and flanged connections are designed for
5,000 PSI working pressure. For high volume service a dual line
screen is available, doubling the capacity.

TRIPLEX RELIEF VALVE

Oilmaster Triplex Relief Valve
The Oilmaster Triplex Relief Valve is specifically designed for
high pressure relief on multiplex pumps. It can be adjusted to fit
a wide range of operating pressures to accommodate different
sizes of plungers used in the multiplex pump. The inlet side is a
nominal 2 inch bevel for weld and the outlet size is a 1 inch NPT.
It is built of solid-block design and the internals are of corrosive
resistant materials.

PLUG The Crossover Assembly, or Y tool, allows downhole surveys to be
taken with wireline equipment while electric submersible pumping

equipment is in place and operating in the well. The Y tool, called
so because of its unique shape, provides a piping arrangement
which offsets the pump, allowing survey tools to go straight through
to the bottom of the well. Surveys are recorded without disturbing
the pumps' original function, even in directional wells drilled up to 75
degrees. The Y tool also provides a method of blanking off while
the well is in a normal producing mode or while a survey is in pro-
cess.
The Y tool is useful for production operators in a number of moni-
toring applications, including the location of excessive water or gas
entry from undesirable subzone contributors, tracking water and
gas cap movement within a production reservoir, and monitoring
pressures, temperatures and fluid levels.
The Crossover Assembly has four major components:
Crossover The original crossover assembly is designed to run in
8-5/8 inch or larger casing on 2-7/8 inch tubing. Smaller crossover
assemblies are available for operation on 7 inch-26 lb. casing and 2-
3/8 inch tubing. A 3 inch, 9-5/8 inch unit has also been developed to
accommodate 5-1/2 inch pumps and motors and the running of 1-
11/16 inch survey tools.
The crossover body is streamlined using non-upset tubing and has
no internal shoulders where survey tools can hang up. The straight
portion is made of heavy seamless tubing to prevent fluid cutout.
Each unit, after complete assembly, is hydraulically tested for leaks
to above 3,000 psi. The tool incorporates a seating nipple that
houses a stainless steel seating ring and is capable of accommo-

past the fluid port of the crossover assembly, allowing produced
fluid to keep the neck washed free of sand. The function of this plug
is to blank off the instrument port section while the well is pumping
normally.
Running Plug The running plug is similar to the blanking plug,
except that a wire or recording line can be run through it. The lines
are normally 3/16 inches or 5/16 inches in size. A brass bushing in

occur during retrieving operations, an overshot is provided on the
bottom of the running plug containing slips sized to catch the survey
tool fishing neck. The survey tool and running plug can then be re-
moved from their seated position by alternate means and the well
returned to production after returning the blanking plug to its seated
position.
ELECTRIC Instrument Tube The instrument tube connects to the crossover
SUBMERSIBLE
PUMP assembly providing a passageway for survey tools alongside the
submersible pump installation and into the producing zones. There
are no internal shoulders present throughout the assembly. The
tube is held straight and parallel to the installation by simply clamp-
ing it to the submersible unit with steel banding clamps. The bottom
of the pump instrument tube is cut at an angle and hangs at the bot-
tom of the pump installation. Instrument tubes may be joined to-
gether to obtain the correct overall length.

Anchor/Catcher
The Trico/Page Type B Mechanical Tubing Anchor/Catcher
prevents movement of the tubing during the pumping cycle,
thereby increasing pump efficiency and decreasing rod, tubing
and casing wear. There are two sets of teeth one facing up
and one facing down on each slip. This double gripping action
allows the tool to be set for both anchoring and catching at the
time of initial installation. When set at the proper tension, the
Type B Anchor/Catcher will prevent the tubing and rods from
falling if the tubing should part.
Features/Advantages
Pure mechanical operation. Sets with left-hand rotation
and releases with right-hand rotation.
Holds in tension and compression.
Stainless steel drag springs minimize corrosion and hydro-
gen embrittlement problems.
Setting threads coated for corrosion protection.
Emergency release possible with straight upward pull.

Tubing Drain
The Trico/Page Type S Tubing Drain is more specialized than
the Type B model. Its small O.D. makes it ideal for use in small
casings. The large drain ports permit rapid draining of heavy

pressure internally and/or externally and offers full tubing I.D. and a
means to pump down the tubing to kill a gassy well before pulling
has begun.
Because it is mechanical instead of hydraulic, the R drain must
have a backup to actuate it in the hole and is used primarily with
Type R Tubing Anchors (tubing drains should always be run with
hydraulic tubing anchors).
Features/Advantages
Has a minimum number of parts and seals.
A friction pad holds the drain closed, safeguarding against ac-
cidental opening while running in.
A Teflon bearing ring reduces the friction normally found in
tools held in tension, eliminating 90% of the torque required to
turn the drain.
Operation
Before running in, make certain the drain is closed by turning the
sleeve left to the radial stop.
Install the R drain approximately two to three joints above the tub-
ing anchor (box thread up) to position the drain out of sand deposi-
tion and allow alignment above any offset in the anchor.
To open, relieve the tension in the tubing string (if the head permits)
and rotate the tubing to the right. A 310 rotation at the drain will
open the tool.

Page On and Off Attachment

The Trico/Page On and Off Attachment is a unique, precision
made tool that provides a means of getting on or off a sucker rod
string at any point desired in the string. The tool is rugged and sim-

The primary function of the Trico Hydro-Balanced Stuffing Box
is to provide a pressure lubricated area between a primary (pro-

seals receive no lubrication from the well fluids since the pol-

heat and lack of lubrication which results in well fluids leaking af-

the secondary seal, the polished rod is continually lubricated

Features/Benefits of the Hydro-Balanced Stuffing Box

Features Benefits

Pressure lubrication with a known environmentally safe lubricant Packing and polished rod life will be extended.
Input horsepower requirements are reduced due to lower friction between the rod
and packing.

Only pressure differential between known lubricant and outside conditions When packing does leak, only the controlled lubricant will leak. Costly cleanup ex-
penses are reduced.

1500 PSIG working pressure, 3000 PSIG maximum pressure May be used on any well with a test working pressure below 1500 PSIG

Biodegradable fluid version Automatically replenishes any lost fluids due to leaking packing. A 3000 PSIG low
level shut-off switch is also available to shut down the pumping unit.

Grease version Manual system. When packing leaks, grease must manually be pumped back into
the system. Pressurized grease will improve rod and packing life in progressive cav-
ity pumps.

Both versions use fluid seal packing as the secondary seal Seals are hydraulically actuated, and do not need excessive force for sealing. Re-
duced friction between packing and the polished rod will occur.

Both versions sold in retro-fit packages or assemblies Complete adaptation to any complete stuffing box, and product versatility.

Sucker Rod Wrenches

Rod Buster
The Trico snap-action Rod Buster Sucker Rod Wrench is made
of high-grade alloy steel, hardened to resist wear. This light-
weight (6 lb.) rugged tool is excellent for manual makeup and
breakout of sucker rod joints. It features a counterbalanced grip
to reduce fatigue. The cross-section of the handle is oval, which
provides a natural resistance to the wrench spinning when
gripped. The head is spring-loaded and a hardened steel bush-
ing is provided between the wrench head and handle. Three
sizes are available: Part No. 555-560-050 for 3/4 and 7/8 inch
API rods, and Part No. 555-560-075 for 1 inch API rods. There is
no wear on the rivet during wrench use. Small part repair kits are
available for the Rod Buster Wrench.
Spin Wrench
The Trico Sucker Rod Spin Wrench is a one-piece tool manufac-
tured from high tensile strength alloy steel. The wrench opening
fits the square on sucker rods and is accurately machined to re-
duce user fatigue. The spin wrench is available in two sizes: Part
No. 555-559-500 is furnished for 5/8 inch API rods and Part No.
555-559-600 is used for 3/4 and 7/8 inch API rods.

Paraffin Knife
A proven paraffin-removing feature makes the Trico paraffin
knife a rugged yet flexible tool. The units are available in the fol-
lowing sizes:
2 inch Paraffin Knife complete with 5/8 inch API pin
(Part No. 556-792-600).
2 inch Paraffin Knife complete with 3/4 inch API pin
(Part No. 556-793-000).
2-1/2 inch Paraffin Knife complete with 3/4 inch API pin
ROD BUSTER SPIN WRENCH PARAFFIN KNIFE (Part No. 556-792-700).
SUCKER ROD WRENCH
Replaceable scraper disks are also available for 1-1/2, 2-1/16,
2-3/8 and 2-7/8 inch tubing.

Tap and Die Sets

These handy Trico tools are available in combination or single
rod size models and provide an on-the-spot thread chaser for
use on all well servicing units. They allow you to repair rod
threads and couplings in the field by setting correct factory
thread pitch and contact area.
The combination models provide two taps and two dies in one
tool. Three models are available: Part No. 556-786-010 for 5/8
and 3/4 inch API threads, Part No. 556-786-020 for 3/4 and 7/8
inch API threads, and Part No. 556-786-030 for 7/8 and 1 inch
API threads.
In producing areas where a single sucker rod size is most com-
mon, single size tap and die tools are available. These units
come in a choice of 5/8, 3/4, 7/8 or 1 inch API.
All Trico tap and die tools are made of high quality hardened
steel. They are not designed to cut new threads.

Rod Hooks
Trico Rod Hooks are designed for operating speed and safety.
They feature a special snap-in latch mechanism which permits
the elevator bail to enter the hook opening without the latch be-
ing released by the operator. When the elevator bail is engaged,
the hook spring automatically forces the latch to a locked posi-
tion, holding the elevator secure until released. The latch spring
is enclosed in a housing to prevent fouling. Trico Rod Hooks are
made of forged high-grade steel, heat treated for long life.
Both the short Snap-In Rod Hook (33 lb.) and long Snap-In
Spring Lift Rod Hook (55 lb.) have a safe working capacity of
35,000 pounds.

Snap-In Spring Lift Rod Hook

The Trico Snap-In Spring Lift Rod Hook has an extra long shank
containing a heavy coil spring which supports the section of
rods being pulled. The spring protects the rod threads while the
rods are being removed from the tubing. The additional weight
of this hook assists in unspooling the line from the pulling unit.
Overall length is 23 inches. Hook opening is 1-7/8 inches. To or-
der this hook, specify Part No. 554-578-800.
Snap-In Rod Hook
SNAP-IN SPRING LIFT
The Trico Snap-In Rod Hook has a standard shaft length and an ROD HOOK
overall length of 18-1/2 inches. Hook opening is 1-7/8 inches.
Order Part No. 554-578-600, complete.

Super Lift-A Rod Elevator

The Trico Super Lift-A Rod Elevator is unsurpassed in strength,
ease of operation and safety. Interchangeable rod plates are of
hardened steel and give you the economy of adapting the eleva-
tor for 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8 and 1 inch rods instead of replacing the
entire elevator. All parts are fabricated from high grade steel.
The elevator design provides excellent balance and non-tilt per-
formance. Large access to the front and rear release levers as-
sures easy, safe latching and unlatching. Long bails (19 inches)
provide free action for sub elevators.

Sucker Rod Sockets

Reversible-Type Sucker Rod Socket
The Trico Reversible-Type Sucker Rod Socket is a combination
slip socket for retrieving sucker rods, polished rods and sucker
rod couplings (except hard surfaced couplings). Each socket is
fitted with a reversible slip unit which has reverse wickers in
each end. When fishing for couplings, the large I.D. end of the re-
versible slip is run in the down position. For fishing rods alone,
the slip unit is reversed. The large I.D. end of the slips will catch
two different sizes of boxes, while the other end will catch two
different sizes of rods. The slip units are held in place by control
rings. Regular sockets, available to run in either 2 or 2-1/2 inch
tubing, are capable of fishing varied rod and coupling sizes.
When ordering, specify the rod and coupling sizes to be re-
trieved.
Combination Sleeve-Type Sucker
Rod Socket
The Combination Sleeve-Type Sucker Rod Socket is designed
for fishing rod body breaks and rod couplings. It has an upper
bowl fitted with rod slips suitable for catching two different size
rods, and a lower bowl fitted with a single end slip unit designed
to engage and catch one size sucker rod coupling.
Regular sockets are available to run in either 2 or 2-1/2 inch tub-
ing. These units are capable of fishing varied rod coupling sizes.
REVERSIBLE-TYPE When ordering, specify the rod and coupling sizes to be re-
SUCKER ROD
SOCKET trieved.

Little Giant Rod Sockets

The Little Giant Sucker Rod Socket is a combination socket for
running inside tubing and catching rods (not including boxes). It
is used for running inside a working barrel with corresponding
COMBINATION
size tubing. Regular sockets are available to run in 2 inch tubing.
SLEEVE-TYPE These units are capable of fishing varied rod sizes. When order-
SUCKER ROD SOCKET
ing, specify the rod size to be retrieved.

Mousetrap Sucker Rod Socket

The Mousetrap Sucker Rod Socket is employed when other
fishing tools have been unsuccessful. We recommend that it be
used to fish no more than 3,000 feet of sucker rods at any one
time. The 2 inch socket cannot be used if the rod break is 16
inches or more above the coupling (in the rod string) because it
would be impossible for the rod to pass the sucker rod connec-
tion on top of the mousetrap.
The regular 2-1/2 inch socket (Part No. 552-520-100) is used to
catch 1-3/16 inch O.D. couplings in 2-1/2 inch tubing.
Swivel Rope Socket
Swivel Rope Sockets are used to connect the wireline to the
sinker bar for swabbing. The swivel permits free turning of the
swab under load. Sockets are furnished in two sizes: 1-3/8 and
1-3/4 inch O.D. for wire rope up to 7/8 inch in diameter. The 1-3/4
inch O.D. is available with API sucker rod box sizes for 5/8, 3/4
and 7/8 inch sucker rod pins, 1-3/8 inch O.D. with 5/8 inch box.
The 1-3/4 inch O.D. socket is made with a 1-3/8 inch O.D. x 4
inch long fishing neck on the upper half of the socket. The 1-3/8
inch O.D. socket has a 1-1/8 inch O.D. x 1-1/2 inch long fishing
neck on the upper half of the socket. The 1-3/8 inch O.D. socket
has a 1-1/8 inch O.D. x 1-1/2 inch long fishing neck. The 1-3/8
LITTLE GIANT MOUSETRAP SWIVEL ROPE inch socket complete is specified as Part No. 556-578-310. The
SUCKER ROD SUCKER SOCKET
SOCKET ROD SOCKET 1-3/4 inch socket complete is Part No. 556-578-300.
