The Quiapo Medical Center
I think that the people who would seek comfort or
treatment here are those that are more believing in
traditional medicine and who are kind of desperate in
seeking care in terms of urgency and, possibly, financial
reach.
The Quiapo Medical Center is centered on the Church,
which is surrounded by an aisle of herbal, faunal, and
mineral remedies, charms, and even a section of tarot card
readers or mga manghuhula.
The pharmacy was represented by the herbal medicine
area on the left side of the Church.
The section of manghuhula was right in front of the
Church in the plaza area.
The candles were also found in front of the Church, even
nearer to the entrance. I think this is because people do
already have the tradition of burning candles or incense in
church so its easy to place themselves there.
There were many scapulars, charms, and figurines. Most
of them were carvings or figures of either Jesus, Mary, or
the Sto. Nio (i.e. Sto. Niong Hubad).
They are quite pushy and are presumptive on the kind of
care that you are looking for. I suspect this is also related
to their desire to make more money.
I spent Php100 on a complete reading and Php200 on
miraculous powder to wash away my bad luck. While
Cytotec was rather pricey, everything else was very
affordable compared to treatment in a private hospital.
Makati Medical Center
This is hospital is rather well-established and renovated
just a few years back. It has a number of food franchises
inside for patients and doctors alike. Upper middle class
to upper class people are those that seek care in this
hospital.
It is divided into multiple halls with private clinics of
doctors of all sorts of specialties. Specialties are not
necessarily grouped together. Other facilities (i.e.
laboratory, x-ray, etc.) have their own areas.
The pharmacy is on the first floor of the main building by
the cashier.
Like stated above, the specialists are not necessarily
grouped into departments in this hospital.
The personnel here are rather passive, they dont assume
that youre looking for something specific so they wait for
you to approach them and dont necessarily offer to help
you right away.
Most tests here are very expensive when you do not have
any insurance or health accreditation. I would say some of
them are even overpriced.
