A bridge too far

T
HE TITLE is not mine. It is the title
of a World War II movie of the fa-
mous battle of the Remagen Bridge
spanning the Rhine River between Cologne
and Koblenz that opened the way for the
Allies to cross to Germany.
I used this title due to the similarity of
the situation between the Allied attempt to

news from Occidental Negros Governor

bridge revives hopes for its realization.
The bridge that is too far in the future is now here and within
lifetime of the 20th century generation. It is no longer a bridge in
a distant.
During the visit of Typhoon Ruby that stranded hundreds of
people both in Bacolod and Iloilo, people realized the value of
this bridge. While all sea vehicles were prohibited from sailing,
the fact was that the weather in Iloilo was very good. On Saturday
there was a slight drizzle for minute or so that I joked the Asperges
has more water than the spitting of the heavens.
It was the same on Sunday. There was wonderful weather except
for an early slight rain that lasted a few minutes.
On Monday afternoon as we waited for the first trip at 2:10, the
ports waiting area was filled with people with plenty of stories to
tell. I was seated beside a member of the Bureau of Jail Manage-
ment and Penology who got stranded with his other companions.
They needed to be in Bacolod on Saturday when there was good
weather. They thought of going to Dumangas to get on the RORO
but the ships were also ordered to stay on port.
