SUMMERFEST 2017
SummerFest Hours
Friday, July 14th 5pm-11pm
Saturday, July 15th 5pm-11pm
(The regular Saturday 4:00pm Mass on
July 15th will be celebrated in the Park
at SummerFest instead of at the Church).
CASH RAFFLE - We will be holding SummerFest 17
in less than a month. Please return your cash raffle stubs
only and payment for the tickets in an envelope marked
Cash Raffle. Returns can be made in the Sunday col-
lection or dropped off or mailed to the parish office.
$5.00 THIRTY DAYS OF CASH - Tickets are on
sale and can be purchased at select weekend Masses or at
the parish office. You cant win if you dont buy a ticket.
If you can take some tickets to sell please call the parish
office ASAP. Your support is greatly appreciated.
BASKET RAFFLE - Baskets or standalone items are
needed. If you plan to donate something, please call Ter-
ry Lewis at 258-4616. Also, if you can help in the booth
on Saturday please let me know.
BAKE SALE - If you are planning to bake for Summer-
Fest, please complete the tear off form in the bulletin and
return in the collection basket. Donated items can be
brought to Fr. Abbate Hall (on the hill) from 10 am to
Noon the mornings of SummerFest.
CASH & SCRATCH OFF RAFFLE - Lottery scratch
offs in any denomination are needed for this raffle. If you
dont want to purchase tickets, please consider a mone-
tary donation so that tickets can be purchased. Donations
can be placed in an envelope marked Cash & Scratch
and dropped in the collection basket or at the parish of-

Happy Fathers Day

We extend to all Fathers, Grandfathers and Godfathers wishes for a blessed and
Happy Fathers Day. We pray that God will strengthen all fathers as role models of
faith and family. We commend the dedication and sacrifice of the many men who
work so hard to provide for the well being, love and security of their families. May
God bless them with the fullness of life and joyous days!

The Bishop's ProjectThis Weekend

The Knights of Columbus will be holding their annual Fathers Day Collection after all Masses this
weekend, June 17th and 18th. Proceeds benefit the Bishop of Pittsburghs Project for Exceptional
Children at the St. Anthonys School Programs and McGuire Memorial. The St. Anthony's School
was started by Bishop (Cardinal) John J. Wright more than 50 years ago. His mission has been ex-
panded to include McGuire Memorial, a program that provides education, training, housing and 24
hour a day loving care for children with profound physical and mental disabilities and autism. Your
contribution will aid these children in reaching their full potential. Please be generous.

Eucharistic Minister /Reader Training

Another training session for Eucharistic Ministers and Readers will be held this Monday,
June 19th at 7pm in the church. If you are interested in joining those who serve the parish as
ministers or readers, please call the parish office to register. A training for Altar Severs will
also be scheduled soon. If you are interested in taking this training, please contact the parish
office.

Catholic Mens Fellowship The 1st & 3rd Saturday of each month at 7:30-8am at St. Damien for
Adoration, to St. Francis for 8:30am Mass and then to breakfast.

Our special congratulations to Deacon Al Poroda as he cele-

brated the Sixth anniversary of his Ordination as a permanent
deacon in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, June 11, 2017. We espe-
cially thank him for his dedication to our parish and to his
ministry as a Deacon. May the fullness of grace and blessings continue to come upon him and
his family, and may he continue his ministry for years to come. (Belated wishes, but sincere!)

Ladies of Charity
Members of the Ladies of Charity are reminded that the Mass of Remembrance for June takes
place this Wednesday, June 21st at 8:00 am. Our Birthday Brunch will take place at Hills
Restaurant.

What does the word communion
mean? Websters dictionary states for
its first definition, an act or instance
of sharing. Communion, then, in-
volves sharing. This means that we must make the ef-
562 fort to share in all things. We are asked to share our
liveswho we are and what we do. We are asked to
share our talents and abilities. How is the concept of
communion lived out? This happens by our participa-
tion in communitypeople living, working, and shar-
ing together. What are the characteristics of a good
community? People in community must be able to
communicate. If we cannot speak with one another
then little progress can be made; we will never be able
to share fully. Presence in the community is critical as
well. Community requires us to share with and to trust
others .Such trust forces us to take the chance of being
vulnerable before another person.
Websters dictionary has another definition of com-
munion, one with which we are quite familiar: A
Christian sacrament in which bread and wine are par-
taken of as a commemoration of the death of Christ.
As Catholics we see it as the actual Body and Blood of
Christ, not a commemoration.
The feast of Corpus Christi expresses a twofold love, a
twofold communion, and a twofold reality: Gods love
and communion with us and our need, in return, to
demonstrate love and communion with one another.
We have from Jesus his own Body and Bloodtruly,
sacramentally present with us. When we receive com-
munion we are given life and sustenance for our jour-
ney. But we not only receive communion; we must be
in communion. We must be in communion with God
in our efforts to share what God has given us and re-
turn just a little to God by a life of service. We also
must be in communion with Gods people. As the
Lord unceasingly and unhesitatingly shows himself to
us, so are we asked to be communion, Eucharist to
others, by our ability to share. When God (or one of
Gods people) asks something of usto go some-
where, to do something, to give of our time, talent, or
treasuredo we run and hide? Or do we respond and
share our lives with others? As we continue this cele-
bration of life, as we gather around the table of the
Lord, let us realize that what we celebrate on this feast
of Corpus Chrisit is not only our reception of com-
munion, but our being in communion, sharing our
lives with God and all Gods people, today and each
day of our lives.
