TIPS FOR PREPARING FOR STATE LEVEL EXAMINATION

Congratulations to all the students on successfully progressing to


the Level 2 State Level Examination! Please find below some
important tips to prepare for the upcoming Level 2 State Level
Examination.

MATERIALS TO STUDY

ROUND 1
SPELL IT RIGHT

In this round, complete focus is only on the spelling of words. Students


need to understand how the word is pronounced and spelled. Students
can use the phonetic sounds to understand how the word is spelled.

The below link is an example to refer for phonic sounds. They can
listen to this everyday and practice.

ROUND 2
WORD ANALYSIS

There is a list of root words with meanings provided. Students have to


be thorough with this list from which they can guess the meaning of a
word and vice versa.

In the examination, primary students will be asked to match the root


word with prefix/suffix to make a meaningful word. For higher
classes, the meaning of a word will be provided, from which they have
to derive the root word+ prefix /suffix.

ROUND 3
INFLECTS AND COLLOCATION

Inflects are the changed form of a base word. Adding


{s,s,s,ed,ing,en,er,est} gives us inflects. Knowledge of grammar is
essential for this round to find out the correct form of inflect for a
sentence.

In the examination, primary students will be asked to fill in the


blanks with correct inflected form of a word. Additionally for higher
classes, four options will be given in which one will not be an inflected
form. Students have to spot the odd one out.

Collocations are two words that are the best combination to convey a
particular meaning. Students can refer the examples and learn the
usage of two words that are apt for each other. Eg. Strong coffee,
Heavy Rain etc.

ROUND 4
FIND THE CORRECT SENTENCE

The focus is on the formation of correct sentences. Knowledge of


grammar and usage of right word in a sentence is a must. Detailed
explanation is given for the correct answers. Students can easily spot
the correct answer by comparing the two sentences and spotting the
error in one of them.

this will improve their understanding of how simple sentences are
framed.

ROUND 5
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE

Students can learn about books, authors and information related to


English Literature. Students are expected to learn all the questions
provided in their Study Material.

ROUND 6
WORDS AND MEANINGS

In this round, there will be a list of words with its meanings. Students
are requested to learn the meanings thoroughly and try to apply it
practically in sentences. This will be an exciting way to enhance their
vocabulary and improve their fluency. The meanings provided for the
words are age specific and easy to understand. Students need to be
thorough with the 300 words and its meanings given in the Level 2
Material.

In the examination, the students will be asked to match the words with
the correct meanings which are given in their Study Materials.

ROUND 7
FORM THE CORRECT SENTENCE

The objective of this round is to make the students understand the


basics of sentence formation, taking into consideration the
grammatical structure (Subject + Verb + Object) of a sentence. At
the end of this round, students will learn how to frame a faultless
sentence with correct grammar and usage of words.

In the examination, students will have to choose or fill in the blanks


keeping in mind the correct grammatical structure. All the questions in
the exam will be asked from the booklet only.
ROUND 8
PHONETICS

The students were introduced to Phonetics in the first level (Inter-


School) and in the second level (State Level), they will be tested in the
same. The students must be thorough with the Phonetic Chart and
study the symbols and their sounds to excel in this round. Students

This is an interactive chart, which students can play on their computer


or on any smart phone.

In the examination, students will be tested on various exercises where


they have to select the correct phonetic symbol, phonetic expression
etc.

ROUND 9
READING COMPREHENSION

This round aims at improving the students ability to think, learn and
expand their vocabulary. Students are given 6 exercises Poetry,
News Article, Letter, Advertisement, Product label, Dialogue from a
book. Students have to read the input given and answer questions
related to it.

This round will enable the students to pay attention to what they are
reading and completely understand it in order to answer the given set
of questions.

SAMPLE QUESTION PAPER

Students are requested to practice with the Sample Question Paper


which is provided at the end of the Preparatory Booklet. The Level 2
Exam will be in the SAME format and all the Questions in the exam will
be from the Level 1 & 2 Study Materials provided to them ONLY.

The AUDIO/VIDEO links given above are only for the purpose of better
understanding of that particular exercise and has nothing to do with
the State Level Exam Paper. If the students are thorough with the
Level 1 & 2 Study Materials that is more than sufficient to Excel.
