1. Which center is this question asking for and how do you find it?

Incenter - using a compass, create an arc around one angle of the triangle, placing the needle
on the vertex and rotating the compass. Next, place the needle on one side that it intersects and
draw another arc with the same radius as the first, facing away from the original vertex. Repeat
this with the other intersecting point of the first arc and side. Then create the angle bisector with
a straight edge which starts at the vertex and passes through the point where the two newest
arcs intersect. Repeat this process with all three vertices and erase arcs if there is a lack of
space, making it difficult to see the angle bisectors point of concurrency. This point will be the
incenter of the triangle.

2. Which center is this question asking for and how do you find it?

Circumcenter - place the needle of the compass at one vertex of the triangle, then open the
compass so the measure is larger than half of the side you wish to start with. Now, create an arc
through this side. Flip the compass so the needle is on the other vertex of the side, and create a
second arc without changing the radius. Draw a line through the points where the two arcs
intersect using a straightedge. This is the perpendicular bisector of this side. Erase the arcs if
necessary and repeat this with the other two sides. The point where each line intersects is the
point of concurrency for the circumcenter.

3. Which center is this question asking for and how do you find it?

Centroid - First, open the compass to be more than half of the length of one side. Place the
needle of the compass at one of the vertices of the chosen side and create an arc. Now, place
the needle at the other vertex of the side and create an arc without changing the radius. Draw a
line using a straightedge through the points where the two arcs intersect. Use this line
(perpendicular bisector) to find the midpoint of the line, which will be the point where the two
lines intersect. Draw a new line from the opposite vertex to the midpoint we just found. This is
now one of the three medians of a triangle, which will help us determine the centroid. You can
now erase the perpendicular bisector and arcs if you wish. Repeat these steps with the two
other sides and you will notice a point of concurrency for the three medians. This point is the
centroid of the triangle.

4. Which is the best location for the rental station? Explain in terms of city planning and
geometry.

Team 3 had the best idea of placing the charging and rental station based on the location of the
centroid of the triangle because each of the three vertices would be almost equidistant from the
centroid, whereas the other points of concurrency wouldnt, even though Team 2s design
appeared as such.
Considering people cant walk through other buildings to reach the station, Team 2s
plan would not be the most convenient since the roads would not keep the paths equidistant.
Team 1s hypothesis would not have been as convenient as Team 3s either since one business
was much closer to the incenter than the others with roads. In the other teams propositions,
businesses would be unfairly far away from the station, making it inconvenient for them. Team
3s proposition keeps all the businesses fairly distanced from the new charging station.
