Unit 32 assignment 4

Above is the brief for unit 32 assignment 4 and is the brief i will be following for this current assignment.

Client Liaison Diary

Animation Diary

Diary
17/10/2016 Session 1
Aim
Listened to intro and started assignment. Made all the necessary documents.
Evidence
The evidence is in my files for this unit.
Learnt
I learnt what I need to do for the rest of the assignment.
This is the timeline that we use to edit our videos. This shows us what video we are using, what
effects we have used and where we have used them. The yellow line at the top shows us how
long my video will be, making it easier to keep between the boundaries. The bars are noticeably
different shades of blue, the top one is video and the bottom is audio.

This is the effects tab. This shows me an organised layout of all the effects I can use for my video
and audio. This is what you can see in the image above. The yellow bar in-between the audio
and video bars shows a transition effect.
This is just one of the clips of the images that I am using, and in this window it shows us how to
view our video after the effects have taken place. The icons at the bottom show us how we can
view the video in different ways and make some minor adjustments too.
Aim
To do as much work as possible to meet the deadline.
Evidence
The evidence is in my files for this unit.
Learnt
I learnt how to add effects to video.
This is on adobe premiere which I used to make my final version of my ident. As you can see I am
editing my final version of my ident that I am going to use as my final edit. The icons at the side
will indicate how and what I might need to use to add some final touches to my ident. You can
also play about with the sounds and sizes
this is the timeline that we use on Macromedia so we can add or import files and clips to use for
our ident. At the bottom is a window that we use to make sure that everything is working well,
but it also shows us the videos or clips we are using at the time.
Publishing Evidence

this is me publishing my ident for people to see and

evaluate. I Didnt need to do anything to the settings as everything was already set up on there.

Once I published the video ran smoothly and there were no faults and everything was fine.
Opportunities
Evaluation

Report

In the chart above, it clearly shows that most people enjoyed my ident but some didnt.

And in this one you can see that everyone thought that the ident ran smoothly.

for other projects in the near future
Time Management
Above is the ILP that I used to manage my time to make sure that everything got done on time.

Client Needs

The requirements for this project are

noted in my brief. I must first create a Gantt chart so that I will have a time schedule planned
out in order to keep in control of my progress. The second requirements are to assemble a
budget report. The budget report must contain all the software and equipment I will be
requiring in order to complete this assignment, the report also requires me to note the prices of
all the items listed and their totals.

A planned proposal is required for the project before I can move onto the creation of my
product. This document is the proposal and I will be referring back throughout my project to
help with ideas and how I go about designing them. it will also be an important document if I
ever find myself stuck or unable to remember what needs doing next. This way I can go back
and see what I need to do.
The main task is that the client needs is for me to ultimately create an animated channel ident,
and the length must be a maximum of 30 seconds of footage. It has been requested that there
be the logo present and it should show an example of a sit-com, comedy, and drama. The
channel is aimed at the ages 18-30 which must be kept in mind during the design process. This
needs to be created on Macromedia, which I have used previously so I have some experience,
but if I ever get stuck I can just easily remind myself with a handbook.

Mind Map of Ideas

I have created a mind map to aid in ideas generation for this project. They contain the basics I
must include such as the dimensions, lists of available software. As well as other ideas such as
animation style, theme of ident and music.
The mind map consists of Formats, Themes, Screen Size, Target Age Group, Video Content
Requirements, Colour Schemes and Graphics.
I will also need to identify which music would be best suitable for the ident. As my target
audience and main theme is based around a city, I might try and find some urban style music
that adults may enjoy too, so I can appeal to the whole of my target audience.

Unit 4 Assignment 3
Brief
Planning Report
The planning report explains itself in the title really. It is a report that shows how I planned my
time, what kind of plans I have, how Im going to manage my time, and what I need to do.
Planning report

At the beginning of this assignment, I need to look at the list of jobs I may possibly need to complete my product. I also have
allocated roles I need to perform too.

The list includes:

Dope sheets
Video filming
Video editing
An actor
ILP
Logo
Storyboards
Details of each scene
Text to create
Identification of audience
Allocation of jobs
Equipment
Camera
Music
Planning
Salaries
Sources

This is also my guideline that I will use to help me

create my product.

Planning

A series of documents used to plan will be needed to help me organise my time within this product.

ILP - The ILP is a document which is set out like a table. This is mainly accessed in order to view
which subject is supposed to in process at what time, however this can be altered as time goes on to
match where we are up to in the assignment.

Timeline - The Timeline gives shows the dates which the sessions are completed on and the task
rather than the session number which is done using the ILP.

Gantt chart - The Gantt chart shows the task number sub heading, it also shows the name of each
individual task and has the date.

Resources

Resourcing is an important factor during this assignment. After reviewing my dope sheets, and considering how I would go
about collecting the data, I have summarised where I will gather my digital resources. I will use the popular search engine,
google.

Also in the resources is a list of what I need to do:

Camera Provided by college

Shoes Provided by me

Photoshop Available in college

Premiere Pro Available in College

Sound booth Available in college

Microsoft Word Available in college

Logistics of equipment

There will be a lot of equipment that will be required in order to create my project. In the list below is all the things I need:

Camera

shoes

Photoshop

Premiere Pro

Sound booth

Microsoft Word
Agreed Content

The total resources and contents I will be using during the filming
process is as follows;

Storyboards and dope sheets - These will be used for reference

during the production.

Actors x2 minimum The minimum requirement of two actors is so

that we can alternate between them during filming.

Shoes The shoes are the most important part of the video, they will
be the focus point of the entire video.

Graphics The main area graphics will be required is at the end of

the production when we plan on featuring an image of the shoes by
themselves.

Logo Designs

My logo was inspired by another type of shoe brand called Jordans.

They are basketball shoes that features the famous Michael Jordan
performing his signature move which is displayed as a silhouette. My
idea is fairly similar but instead its the man running.

Storyboards

The storyboards were used in order to design the shoes appearance. It

gave me the chance to create drafts and final ideas.

Dope sheets

The dope sheets allowed me to finalise my ideas for my advert. Once this is
assembled in Premiere it should make for a smooth running video. This has been
depicted in our storyboards as well as other notes to aid in filming. This will be
accomplished by going out into Manchester or Stockport over the course of the week
with my actors and filming.
Chosen Graphics

At the beginning of the production is will start with a graphic of the logo alone
before cutting to video. After the video footage there will be an image of the
trainers either still or rotating on a pedestal with the slogan or logo written across
the top of the page or across the centre.

Audience Identification

In my initial plans the audience was unisex so that there would be a larger
audience for the shoe to appeal to. I did this as I want the largest audience
possible as my shoe could sell increasingly. The target age has not changed.
The shoe design still seems appealing to the ages of 13 50 or anyone who
enjoys fitness. as my audience is young adult the types of music which would be
played will be more modern music, preferably if we can find a fitting song,
music from the charts as it is more likely the music will be recognised. This will
be used in the advertisement.

Salaries

As we are students we will not be receiving a pay check at the end of the assignment,
however we do need to consider the financial aspects of the production which means looking
at the cost of our required equipment and resources. Fortunately, basic equipment which is
needed such as cameras and software is all available in college. Anything else I need will
have to be paid for by myself.

Diary
The diary helps me keep on track with everything I do within the
lessons, and gives a detailed insight into what I did on each day, and what I possibly could have
learned too.
Diary

This is my diary for the advertisement of the new Journeys shoes that I have designed
and created.

I edited my video on a software known as Adobe Premiere Pro. It is a purple square

with the initials located within it. This is common throughout adobe software.
In the screenshot to the right, is a little window that is
featured within Adobe Premiere. It is where you can
transfer the files you want to use to edit your
advertisements. As you notice the scroll bar to the far
right of the window, it means that I have quite a lot of
videos to play around with so that it gives my video more
chance to change things around if anything goes wrong.

in this image, you can see a timeline. With this I can see
how long my video will be, and how long the clips are so
that it is easier for me to edit to my full abilities.

So as you can clearly see, this a YouTube converter. This is

what I used to extract my videos from YouTube so I could
gather the sound for my advertisements. This is the only one
that works as the college has blocked all the others.
this is the official logo of Adobe Premiere. This is the software that I used to edit my
advertisement. It is very good and very useful.

I imported the video files from the camera I used on the day of filming. The process
was fairly easy as I just needed a USB cord to import the videos.

Management Report
The management report shows I managed everything within the assignment, so it basically
shows you how I managed my time, and what I did within that time. It begins to explain mainly
time management, but also how I structured things.
Management Report

Pre-production

The pre-production phase of the project is the planning that comes before the
actual filming of the advertisement. At the start of this project I created the
basic story boards and dope sheets of what I wanted our product to look like
and how I imagined the advertisement will look like. After I decided what we
wanted the shoes to look like, and what I wanted the advertisement to contain
I then planned when I was going to meet up; I decided to meet up outside
college with some friends so we could do all of the filming in one block rather
than small parts on different days.

Production phase

I met up on a Tuesday morning to film our advertisement with the actor.

Using two actors wearing the different types of shoes I filmed short clips
of them walking, sitting or jumping. I filmed with different backgrounds
as this is what we decided in our dope sheets. For example, I film myself
running etc.

Past Production Phase

After I had finished with our filming and were happy with what I had
captured I took the footage back to college and downloaded it onto the
computer. I then imported the files into Adobe Premier.
Project management

To manage the project, I used an ILP. This held all the dates of the lessons and what I needed to complete. I found this useful as
It helped me keep in time with what I was doing, showing me how much time I
had until the deadline. I kept on top of it all by planning out what I would do
for each session. This meant I could keep on top of the work I had to do so I
could have everything finished by the deadline.

Agile Methods

Agile methodology is an alternative to traditional project management, typically used in

software development. It helps teams respond to unpredictability through incremental,
iterative work cadences, known as sprints.

Scrums

Scrums is an iterative and incremental agile software development framework for managing product development. It defines "a
flexible, holistic product development strategy where a development team works as a
unit to reach a common goal", challenges assumptions of the "traditional, sequential
approach" to product development, and enables teams to self-organize by
encouraging physical co-location or close online collaboration of all team members,
as well as daily face-to-face communication among all team members and disciplines
involved.

Contingency plans for staffing resources

For filming my advert, I decided to ask/bring with us two people to film. This way, if someone
couldnt make it I would still have two people to film with and they could change their shoes to
make it look like more people. I also planned on using another friend if I needed any other
people as I could use one person for filming and I were both planning on being present.

Monitoring and viewing

To monitor and review the work as I went we created a Diary and ILP. This meant that as I
were going I updated our ILP and Diary with what I had done with the session, our aims
and what we had learnt. This also helps me keep on track of what I am doing through all
the sessions featured within the time limit that we have to complete my work for. It will
help me achieve the deadline and make sure that my work is handed in to a reasonable
standard.

We also had 'milestone reviews' that we have to assist ourselves with throughout the
duration of the time allocation.
Crisis Management

To manage any potential crisiss that would occur whilst filming or editing our advert I created
a risk assessment form that stated any potential hazards/risks, who was at risk, the probability
of the risk and what we could do to avoid the risk from happening.

When I filmed my advertisement, I need to make sure that no risks or hazards could occur once
the filming is taking place. We had to type up a risk assessment and highlight the potential
dangers that could occur, how to prevent them, and what the answer is if one was to occur.

Quality Control

To make sure the quality of my video was of a high standard I made

sure that all of the equipment I used was the best available. I used
my camera and tripod as these were of a higher standard than the
cameras college provided. I created the shoes I had designed. I
wanted my own designs to be in my video, so thats why my creation
was the final production featured in my advertisement.

I wanted my advertisement to be funny/serious, meaning that people

will remember the advert for being humorous or serious. I did this
using great acting and a plot for the advert. The plot is a guy waking
up on his girlfriends birthday, remembering that he has forgotten to
buy her a present, so he rushes out to the shops, wearing his
'Journeys'. I then show the girlfriends usual routine, which in reality it
takes about 2 minutes to get out of bed. Before she is down the
stairs, the boyfriend is home with presents, showing how quick the
new shoe can make you. The girlfriend is curious as to where her partner is, and he is in the hallway caressing his amazing shoes.

Meeting Submission Dates

Whilst creating my advertisement I kept on track with our ILPs. I did this so I were on time
with all the tasks I had to complete with the final submission date. I split so it was easier to
complete all the tasks in time.

Having an ILP made sure I was ready to hand all of my work in for a submission date. For
each lesson I had a plan on the ILP of what needed doing on each day. I did all my filming
in a short amount of time so I had time to complete everything on time. This made it easier
to catch up if needed to.
Questionnaire
The questionnaire is a survey that I gave to my class to rate my work. From this I can take the
feedback I was given and see what went well or wrong.
Questionnaire

1. What is the advert about?

Shoes Bar College Radio

2. Is it clear?
Yes No

3. Does the music work well?

Yes No

4. Is the video appealing?

Yes No

5. Could it be improved?
Yes No

6. Is the advert different/unique?

Yes No

7. Does the advert make you want to buy/look into the product?
Yes No
Evaluation

Evaluation

Does the music work well?

10%

Yes
No

90%

After calculating all of my questionnaire results into a chart I can clearly see that most of my viewers agreed that the music
worked well which is always good to see. This tells me that throughout the video my trainers are being promoted well and that
the advert is successful. To help me improve, I could ask the question of which music would fit best in my advert.

Could it be improved?

40%
Yes
No
60%
From this I now know that I need to improve y work, its just a question of how. So the question I need to ask to my viewers is
what can I do to improve. I know some people enjoyed it but more people said I need to improve so I will take this advice on
board.

Technical Qualities

I composed the video using Adobe Premiere CS5. This involved importing my raw footage and then all the editing tools were
then provided. The programme is easy to use if you know what you are doing.

I used a lot of different camera angles to try and appeal to my target audience and keep them interested in my video. Regarding
my camera angles my footage greatly consisted of close ups, wide shots, and point of view angles.

Close up Wide Shot POV

Aesthetic Qualities

The general aesthetics of the production involve brightly coloured shoes which contrast the
backgrounds and the actors clothes. This was intentionally done in order to direct the attention to
the footwear which is assisted by my choice in camera angles.

In my video, I used a lot of urban and homely environments which brought a lot of aesthetic
qualities to my videos. I chose to use outdoor scenes and the indoor scenes for the most part not
just for lighting preference and visual qualities but also for practicality. I had the opportunity to take
advantage of the open space in order to perform larger more interesting actions and routines.

Realisation of proposal

The first task to realise on the proposal was to create storyboards and dope sheets
for the product, logo and the scenes which will be in the video. I was given the task
of designing these.

After all the design work came the video production stage. The main stage. The
crucial requirements for the video stage were that the project must include video,
sounds and info about the product itself. I created, printed, cut out and stuck my
logo on the base shoes to give it a nice finish.
Fitness for Purpose

The purpose of my video was to promote and sell a new brand of trainers which will stand out amongst competitors. I think this
was achieved in my own eyes and in the eyes of others which I have determined from my questionnaire results.

The final footage was saved as a QuickTime video as that is the only one that works and gives a good quality video.

As it would throughout the day when aired I have made sure to avoid any indecency, foul language, or suggestive
footage/reference making it clean and suitable for all ages within my production.

Before creating my product, I looked at the legal and ethical considerations that I may have to take into consideration before I
continue with my final product.

Conclusion

As a whole, I believe that my video was a huge success as everyone seemed to enjoy it, and myself and the actors featured
within the video had a great time filming too. After careful analysis and research into my questionnaires, I noticed that many
people said that I need to improve my video, so I will raise awareness so that I know what I need to do, if the opportunity arises
again.

Time Management
I need to give evidence of time management. The ILP (Independent Learning Plan) shown below
showing that I stayed within the boundaries of the time and made sure that I got everything
done on time.
