 Configured and customized CMS and Online Shopping Cart for customers of TAGnet
 Setup a Document Repository Tool to be used as a Knowledge Base.

Projects Worked In

1. Request Tracking System

We provide Technical Support to clients of TAGnet. We do this through email and chat. Using ordinary email alone, we
were not able to keep track of a problem, or the previous correspondence with customer. So, we searched for a tool to keep
track of Support Emails. Configured a tool called Request Tracker (RT), which had the following features:

2. Monitoring Servers and Services in the Network

At TAGnet, we maintain about 15 to 20 servers (Web Servers, Database Servers, FTP servers, etc). The TAGnet portal
receives about 3 million hits every week and even an hour downtime would be a big loss. Configured a Network Monitoring
System using Nagios. This system keeps monitoring the servers through PING checks and will also monitor services like
HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, POP, etc. If any of these servers or services is down, the system will send an alert message.
We configured this tool in such a way that alerts are sent to out team here in India during our daytime and send the alerts to
the other Administrators in US during their daytime. This helps us in attending the problem immediately and hence reducing
downtime.

3. Online Store Front

Configured an Open Source E-commerce tool in TAGnet to accept donations and to accept payments for various other
services that we offer. Some of our customers liked this feature and wished to have a similar Storefront in website, to accept
donations and to sell products/services. We are offering this service to our clients now. Have configured and customized this
tool for about 10 customers.

4. Content Management Services

TAGnet.org has some sub domains that need to be updated regularly. Each time we want to update a page, we had to
download the page edit and upload it back to the servers. While looking for an easier option to update pages on a regular
basis, we came across a Content Management System called Postnuke. http://www.theadventure.org Now, we are offering
this service to our customers also. We configure the tool for them and create/convert their website in Postnuke.

5. Generating Hit Statistics

WUsage is the tool that we use to convert web server logs into a neat Hit Statistics Report. We update the Statistics website
(http://stats.tagnet.org) on a weekly basis. This process includes collecting logs from various web servers, Real Media
Servers and Windows Media Servers. The Real Media Logs and Windows Media Logs are modified to the form of Web
server logs and then WUsage converts all the logs into neat Hit Statistics Web pages.

6. Monthly Updates and Security Audits
All the servers in the cluster are to be updated once in a month. This task is done during the first week of every month and
involves the following steps:
• Removing the server from the cluster, so that it doesn't affect the cluster
• Applying patches and updating software
• Updating tripwire baseline database, rebooting the server and adding the server back to the cluster
• Conducting a Security Audit on the updated server, using Nessus
• Analyzing the Nessus Report and fixing the security holes and warnings

7. File System Integrity Check

Setup tripwire on all servers. Setup a cron to run the tripwire check once in a day and send the report to an email id.
Tripwire checks the file system and a baseline database is created when it is setup. Every time a tripwire is run to check
integrity of the file system, it compares the current file system details with the baseline database (created at the time of
setup) and report the state of the files. It detects files that were added, modified or deleted.
