EXECUTIVE
SUMMARY
Mission
The
Santa
Clara
University
Club
Sports
Department
strives
for
the
success
and
growth
of
all
of
its
athletes.
In
addition
to
Santa
Clara
University
providing
students
a
wholesome
Jesuit
education,
participating
in
Club
Sports
furthers
individual
growth
by
being
a
student
athlete
and
taking
on
the
many
available
leadership
positions.
SCU
currently
has
17
club
teams
competing
nationally
and
468
club
sport
student
athletes
representing
our
University.
Club
Sports
athletes
are
seen
as
free
publicity
for
the
school,
we
must
protect
and
savor
this
publicity
to
further
enhance
our
positive
reputation
as
a
university.
Values
The
Womens
Lacrosse
team
exempliVies
the
Santa
Clara
mission
in
all
situations.
We
represent
SC
with
Style
and
Class.
Holding
ourselves
and
our
teammates
to
the
highest
standard
to
positively
build
the
reputation
of
what
it
means
to
be
a
Bronco.
We
are
proud
to
be
members
of
the
Santa
Clara
Womens
Lacrosse
team,
however
the
moment
we
put
on
our
jerseys
we
also
represent
the
entire
Santa
Clara
community,
everyone
who
studied
before
us
and
will
study
after
us.
Objectives
Due
to
concerns
brought
to
my
attention
by
players,
parents,
and
alumni,
we
are
proposing
a
way
to
revamp
and
modify
the
Vlawed
travel
policies
and
transportation
methods.
This
proposal
will
be
individually
crafted
speciVically
for
the
use
of
the
Womens
Lacrosse
Team,
but
can
be
altered
and
shared
with
the
entire
Club
Sports
department
to
help
transform
means
of
transportation
for
other
teams.
For
the
safety
of
our
student
athletes,
we
plan
on
partnering
with
charter
bus
companies
that
can
transport
the
team
to
all
off
campus
competitions,
with
a
long-term
goal
of
investing
in
a
Club
Sports
bus.
By
implementing
this
travel
policy,
we
can
save
money
on
gas,
wear
and
tear
on
personal
vehicles,
Vlights
and
hotels;
we
can
reduce
the
number
of
cars
on
the
freeway
and
emissions
released
into
the
air;
and
we
can
eliminate
preventable
accidents
and
put
our
players
in
a
position
to
reach
success.
1
This
implementation
will
save
the
Womens
Lacrosse
team
money,
help
the
environment,
and
most
importantly
provide
a
safe
way
to
transport
precious
cargo
to
and
from
competitions.
PROBLEM
The
current
methods
of
transportation
for
the
Womens
Lacrosse
team
put
the
players
in
uncomfortable
and
unsafe
situations,
and
give
parents
an
unsettling
feeling.
Requiring
players
to
drive
personal
vehicles
to
and
from
competitions
puts
them
in
unsafe
situations
that
could
result
in
accidents
that
could
have
been
avoided.
Weather
Weather
is
unpredictable
and
uncontrollable.
Before
the
Santa
Barbara
Shootout
in
the
2017
season,
we
knowingly
sent
the
entire
team
into
what
was
predicted
to
be
the
worst
storm
in
the
last
decade.
As
a
driver,
due
to
fog
and
torrential
down
poor,
there
were
moments
that
I
could
not
see
the
lane
lines
even
with
my
windshield
wipers
going
full
blast.
Weather
reports
have
stated
Santa
Barbara
country
received
an
inch
of
rainfall
in
a
single
hour
that
weekend.
Fatigue
24
hours
without
sleep
is
equivalent
to
having
a
blood
alcohol
content
level
of
.1,
which
is
.02
above
the
legal
limit.
As
a
student
athletes,
student
always
comes
before
athlete.
We
are
encouraged
to
strategically
prioritize
our
time
to
accomplish
school
work,
while
showing
up
read
to
practice.
Juggling
academics,
lacrosse,
and
social
obligations,
sleep
is
often
sacriViced.
Especially
before
game
weekends,
the
team
spends
long
nights
in
the
library
to
get
ahead
knowing
their
lack
of
free
time
that
weekend.
Drowsiness
from
lack
of
sleep
is
a
controllable
factor
that
is
hard
to
regulate
and
control
in
our
athletes.
However,
physical
fatigue
after
a
game
is
unavoidable.
After
playing
three
hours
of
lacrosse,
a
starting
upperclassmen
will
never
claim
she
is
not
tired.
We
encourage
all
our
athletes
to
leave
all
they
have
on
the
Vield
because
you
never
want
to
2
think
back
to
a
game
and
think
there
is
more
you
could
have
done.
This
leaves
our
drivers
physically
and
mentally
tired,
with
risks
of
getting
muscle
cramps
that
can
impair
driving.
PROBLEM
Distractions
There
are
laws
to
eliminate
distractions
from
drivers
such
as
not
driving
and
using
a
cell
phone,
and
new
drivers
cannot
drive
others
besides
family
until
having
their
license
for
more
than
a
year.
However
current
policies,
require
our
student
drivers
to
operate
an
automobile
with
our
favorite
distractions.
OUR
BEST
FRIENDS.
As
a
team,
we
have
our
classic
pump
up
songs
to
get
us
ready
for
game
time,
and
want
to
hear
the
latest
gossip
from
everyone
in
the
car,
but
this
takes
away
the
focus
and
seriousness
needed
to
make
smart,
careful
driving
decisions.

PROJECT
DESCRIPTION
Short
Term
Instead
of
having
players
drive
their
personal
vehicles
to
away
competitions,
we
will
rent
a
drive
and
a
charter
bus
to
transport
the
entire
team
to
and
from
Lacrosse
related
events;
games,
tournaments,
volunteering,
and
team
bonding.
I
have
compared
travel
procedures
with
the
Mens
Club
Lacrosse
team
who
already
utilizes
this
mean
of
transportation
for
any
game
over
two
hours
away.
I
based
prices
and
estimates
from
quotes
made
for
the
Mens
team
from
Quality
Assurance,
Lux
Bus,
and
San
Jose
Charter.
Long
Term
The
Womens
Lacrosse
team
currently
has
$43,996.70
in
their
available
funds
budget
and
has
been
given
the
opportunity
to
participate
in
a
school
endowment.
This
will
allow
Santa
Clara
University
to
use
our
funds
to
invest
for
a
greater
return
on
our
money.
This
increase
in
revenue
can
be
put
towards
investing
in
a
Club
Sports
Department
bus
to
provide
transportation
to
all
club
sports
teams.

CONCLUSION
Our
athletes
are
future
doctors,
journalists,
lawyers,
Vinancial
analysts,
engineers,
and
citizens
working
to
make
the
world
a
better
place.
We
want
to
cherish
all
of
out
athletes
and
put
them
in
a
position
to
be
successful
today
and
tomorrow.
The
implementation
of
my
proposal
will
give
comfort
and
peace
of
mind
to
our
student
athletes
and
their
parents,
will
help
the
environment
sustain
itself
for
future
generations
to
enjoy,
and
will
make
proVit
for
the
Womens
Lacrosse
team
that
could
be
put
towards
player
sponsorship
and
travel.
Let
us
continue
to
succeed
in
athletics
and
show
off
what
it
really
means
to
be
a
Santa
Clara
Bronco.

This
message
is
to
inform
you
of
the
upcoming
policy
procedures
that
will
affect
you
when
traveling
with
the
Santa
Clara
Womens
Lacrosse
team.
To
reduce
costs,
improve
safety,
and
help
the
environment,
we
will
no
longer
be
driving
personal
vehicles
to
and
from
competitions.
The
Santa
Clara
Womens
Lacrosse
team
will
as
of
now,
rent
a
bus
and
driver
for
the
following
events:
Competitions
Volunteering
Team
Bonding
It
has
been
brought
to
the
Departments
attention
that
our
travel
procedures
have
caused
extreme
concern
and
worry
about
the
safety
of
your
teammates
and
their
parents.
This
policy
has
been
changed
to
ensure
the
safety
and
comfort
of
all
members
of
the
Santa
Clara
community.
Accidents
happen,
but
this
is
a
step
to
help
prevent
careless
and
unnecessary
accidents.
This
policy
will
be
effective
at
the
beginning
of
the
2017-2018
academic
year.
The
cost
of
renting
a
bus
will
depend
on
the
distance
and
duration
of
the
event,
but
according
to
the
estimates
we
have
received
it
will
reduce
your
total
travel
expenses
by
25.7%.
Please
let
me
know
if
you
have
any
further
questions
or
suggestions
9
regarding
the
transformation
of
our
travel
procedures.
