Important points to note for the bio gas plant

1.biogas is to be produced by a mixture of cow dung and water mixed in a 1:1 or 1:1.5 ratio by weight .

2.process is to be carried out under anaerobic conditions within a temperature range of 25-35oc and a
ph of 6.6-7.6 ie slightly acidic to very slightly basic medium is needed.

3.biogas produced is mainly a mixture of roughly 60-65% methane and 35-30 % CO2 by volume . Small
amounts of H2S , water vapour is also produced.

4. 1kg of cowdung will generally produce 40 lit of biogas ie methane and CO2 or 20 lit of pure methane
in a span of 7-45 days as the case may be under STP ie 25oC and 1 atm pressure.

5.1kg of cowdung will produce 46gm of biogas.

6. so 40 lit of biogas at STP will weigh 46 gm

7.H2S should be scrubbed using steel wool or Fe2O3

8.bottle the biogas in bottle of aerated drinks upto 4 atm of pressure can be safely applied to it

9.adapter or connector for the gas pipes are needed.

Male adapter has threading outside whereas the female adapter has threading inside.

10.expansion ratio of the following liquid fuels:

Lpg = 1:270 liquid methane = 1:600

Methane is liquefied at -163oC

for methane : critical temp is -82.6oC critical pressure is 46 atm

11.lpg cylinders use 0.5 inch pipes and fittings
