Robot Museum

By Oguz Gurel
Landscape and Color:
This scene takes place in a museum with a family of robots as its visitors. Both of these
elements give the cartoon a sort of human factor since the robots are seen spending
time as a family, partaking in a human activity. This contributes to the overall gloomy
tone and gives off the idea of a manufactured world. Due to the fact that there are only
robots in the museum, the audience can possibly assume that robots are the only
inhabitants left in the world contributing to the described overall tone.
This gloomy tone can be implied from the dark and bland color scheme of the
cartoon.
The bright red in the belt around the center case emphasizes the item in the case. It
draws the audiences attention to it giving off the impression that it is the most important
exhibit in the room.
Facial expressions, body language, attire:
The individuals in the cartoon, the robot family, carry expressionless faces while
partaking in a family-fun activity. This hints upon the loss of human connection in our
world.
The takeover of human jobs by machines, as well as loss of emotional connection
among human interaction, is purposefully exaggerated in this cartoon, by the
assimilation of robots to human society, to bring attention the issue and the rate at which
it is occurring.
Organization, size, arrangement:
The artist specifically arranged the robot family, observing a wrench, in the foreground of
the cartoon while placing the human relics in the background. This placement
symbolizes the position at which each subject is at in modern society. They represent a
sort of out with the old, in with the new situation; the human aspect of life is part of the
past and has been replaced with machines and artificial connection.
Argument:
Robots, manmade machines, are beginning to take over aspects of human life that are
supposed to have a human touch. By creating this cartoon, the artist is attempting to
bring awareness to this issue and hopefully elicit a change.
Image Response:
Manmade robots are taking over human aspects of life with exponential speed. In the
picture, the robots are observing a tool used to create them, by man, while visiting a museum, a
human recreational activity. This element emphasizes the transformation within our society of
increasing the role and prevalence of robots in everyday life. It also adds a bitter and candid
tone to the piece by addressing the realization of a society that could possibly be run by robots.
The fascination of the robots of the simple tool can also be representative of humans growing
interest in unremarkable objects. People are now easily entertained by small, simple things that,
in the past, would not be very interesting. This scene is also indicative of individuals inability to
connect with oneself or other people. The robots are more interested with the tool rather than
the artistic relics in the back of the museum, possibly because they can relate more to this tool.
This could perhaps symbolize peoples difficulty, nowadays, with being able to reflect upon
oneself as an individual and the connection associated with human interaction.
