Background: 10th EDF RIP signed by the 4 ESA-IO RECs and the EC on 15 November 2008 reflects the ECs willingness to support the transport sector in the Horn of Africa. A project titled Feasibility and detailed design for Berbera-Togochale Road (Berbera Addis Ababa Corridor) IGAD spent most of its allocation of the 10th EDFRIP on Berbera Corridor studies.

Prioritisation Process Technical meeting between EU and the five RECs (COMESA, EAC, IGAD, IOC, SADC) was held in Djibouti on 2-3 June 2014. RECs presented their regional strategies and priorities in infrastructure development and initial lists of projects for consideration under the 11th EDF RIP. Berbera Corridor was the only IGAD prioritized project.

Way Forward The priority list will be presented for no-objection to the High Level Committee meeting scheduled on December 2014, in Gaborone, Botswana. Infrastructure project pipeline will be endorsed by the HLC on annual basis. Partners to engage potential financiers.

The projects feasibility and detailed design
study has been completed. The total cost of the road project for all sections is determined at US $275.3 million. Shortlisted for the 11th EDF Grant.
