Dear contributor,

BRILL is particularly glad that you will publish your article or book review in Southeastern Europe (SEEU). Upon publication,
we will send you an e-offprint of your submission by email. Please make sure that your e-mail address is still valid
approximately 3 to 5 months from now, or will be applicable by that time.
You are also entitled to place one order (using the Journal Contributor Order Form attached) for any of Brills book
publications and to receive a contributors discount of 35% on the regular price. For a full list of our publications please
check brill.com. If you do not already do so, you may also subscribe to Southeastern Europe and receive for one year an
introductory discount of 25% on the subscription price for individuals, using the attached form which is the sixth page of
this pack.
If you have any queries about these arrangements, please contact the Desk Editor, Wendy Logeman, logeman@brill.com.

Enclosed please find page proofs of your paper.

NOTES ON PAGE PROOFS

** please read carefully **
We would kindly ask you:

1. To check the correctness of these proofs very carefully, in particular the spelling of names, words and
phrases in languages other than English and bibliographic references.
2. To inform the Editor, Sara Barbieri at unibo.editoriacecob@unibo.it, of any corrections within 5 working days.
Please inform her even if no corrections are needed.
3. To consider the following. There are several ways to indicate your amendments. The PDF page proofs you
have received now, allow you to make notes right at the very spot where a change needs to be made using
the Text Edits Tool when using Adobe Reader (Please try to avoid the use of sticky notes, as these are not
very clear regarding the spot where a correction should be made). You may also choose the option of
scanning the appropriate page(s). Please save them either as an image file (e.g. JPG/JPEG, Tiff) or in the PDF
format and attach this file in an e-mail to the Editor. If it is difficult to explain a correction (for example, in a
table) by plain text, please contact the Editor to arrange to send relevant pages by fax or surface mail. For
both hard-copy and scanned corrected sheets, please use the standard proof-correcting marks (see below).
4. To remember that the publisher reserves the right to charge for the cost of alterations or additions to the
text other than correction of typographical errors. Since authors will normally have been given the
opportunity to check their work as copy-edited, it is expected that only very minor changes will be made at
proof stage. The production schedule is arranged on this basis.
5. To note that, if proofs are not returned in time, the Editors will send their own corrected proofs to the
printers.
6. To note that the text will be printed as typeset, and as corrected by the author and Editors, but that the
quality of the paper and photographic reproduction in the proofs are in no way indicative of paper and
inking in the printed journal.

So whom should I contact?

About my corrections (Articles and Book Reviews): Sara Barbieri at unibo.editoriacecob@unibo.it.

About my e-offprints or online access: Wendy Logeman, Desk Editor, logeman@brill.com.

Authors Guidelines Marking Corrections in
Adobe Reader or Acrobat (Pro)

The easiest way to correct your proofs is by using Adobe Reader or Acrobat. This document will
help you take the first steps.
If you do not have a version of Adobe Reader or Acrobat yet, you can download a free version of
the Reader from http://get.adobe.com/reader/

1. Setting up Adobe Reader and Acrobat
Open the proofs in Adobe Reader or Acrobat. Then

for Reader:
Click on the Comments button at the top right of your screen and then open Annotations by
clicking on the arrow next to it. Also open List of Comments, so you can keep track of inserted
comments.
for Acrobat:
Go to the menu item View > Toolbars > Comment & Markup to have it appear on your screen.
You can drag it to any convenient location.
Go to the menu item View > Navigations Panels > Show Navigation Pane. A separate pane will
appear on the left, in which you can see yellow balloons. If you click on them, you can keep track
of inserted comments.

2. Starting the Correction Process
The toolbar offers three text editing options:

1. 2. (Highlight) 3.

Ad 1. This works as text editing in Word: you can
Replace words or characters by selecting them and simply typing the correct text;
Insert words or characters by placing the cursor in the right spot and typing the inserts;
Delete words or characters by selecting them and using the backspace or delete button.
Ad. 2. Use Highlight to place a remark next to specific words or phrases, for example to indicate
that something should be in italics. Open the popups in which to write by doubleclicking
or using the right mouse button.
Ad. 3. Use Sticky Notes if you want to say something about a larger part of the text (a whole page
or paragraph), or to make a general remark. The placement of a Sticky Note is not precise
enough to mark specific words.

If you want to remove any correction or mark, you can simply select it by clicking on it and then
pressing delete.

How to Insert Foreign Scripts
Set your keyboard to the required language by choosing it on the language bar (Windows) or in
the keyboard menu on the Menu bar (Mac). Then type in the text edit field.
You can also type in Word, copy the text and paste it into the same text edit field. Do not worry if
blank squares appear instead of letters: the typesetter will see the right letters if the font used is
Unicodeencoded.
